How many IGETC units can be taken P/NP? Does it vary by UC? Or is it a uniform rule across the board?
IGETC | UC Admissions says that “Your courses will count towards IGETC if you get grades of a C or better. A grade of Credit or Pass will also count if the community college’s policy states it is equivalent to a grade of C or better.”
However, if your community college allows C- to be a pass grade, you may want to check if taking a course for IGETC as pass/no-pass is allowed.
Does that mean there is no unit maximum?
You probably want to ask the following directly to be sure.
- Your community college (since your community college does the IGETC certification).
- UC admissions.
- CSU admissions.
Of course, any courses that you may need for your intended major are likely to be required to be taken for a letter grade. Also, check if any specific courses (e.g. English courses) are required to be taken for a letter grade.
