How many in Honors program?

Anyone have any idea on that? I'm just trying to figure my son's chance for getting into Landis/Gilchrist. He has a low priority # - 5,285. I'm guessing that it doesn't look good. Or, if he doesn't get in, any other suggestions for a quieter dorm, more conducive to studying? Thanks.

That priority number is considered high, not low… Although I suppose it really depends on how you look at it really…

But to answer your question, Landis holds just over 400 people, and Gilchrist holds just over 225 people- and Gilchrist isn’t specifically Honors-only. The odds of getting any suite-style dorm room (there’s roughly 3700 spots in these buildings) becomes almost 0 once you hit a priority number of around 4000. That’s typically when FSU Housing starts recommending that people put community-style dorms on their applications.

The odds are pretty much as close to zero without them actually being zero of him getting Landis or Gilchrist. In fact, the odds are almost zero for him to get a spot in any suite-style building.

“Quiet” is rather subjective in dorms. All dorms have quiet hours, that if you don’t adhere to, you can get in trouble with Housing. Really, it’s going to be as conducive to studying as your son makes it. Community-style rooms are often smaller, so there’s less room to sort of shield yourself against your roommate.

If your son wants to live in a suite-style building, and you are hoping to aid his study habits, you might want to look into the [FSU Housing Living-Learning Communities](http://www.housing.fsu.edu/Parents-Guardians/Living-Learning-Communities-LLCs). That’s pretty much the only way your son will live in a suite-style building, as residents of an LLC are housed in the building that holds the LLC.

I remember hearing there are at least 700 people in the honors program, but not all of them will want to live in Landis or Gilchrist, where it’s mandatory to get a meal plan, or even on campus. I know someone with a number in the 4000s who lived in Landis a few years ago.
