I know it's already extremely selective for U.S. students.. but for international students? Does anyone has the figure like how many international students apply each year and how many of them are accepted?

Also, my first language is Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese, and my second language is English. Can I still apply, using Chinese as the language I am going to specialize? coz I know we can't target English?

no that is not at all recommended. it cannot be ur first language. it defeats the purpose of the program. and it is very selective for international students too. i cant find the link for the actual statistics but its about 7.5% admission rate for intl students which is about one in 7 people. also, this takes into aaccount the hooked ones. so its about 1 in 8-9. So VERY competitive

As you probably can see, of the 181 current students, 121 are from US while only 60 are international. that means at ab average only 15 of the 45 seats go to intl students. furthermore, i have heard that approximately 1000-1200 people apply which means that atleast 250-300 ppl will be intl which gives an acceptance rate of abt 6%. Plus out of these 250, i am SURE that atleast 2-5 will be MAJORLY hooked! (my frnd got in via hooks last year- intl student). Therefore, approx 10-13 seats for 250-280 ppl which is TOUGH my friend. Anyways im not trying to dissuade you from applying, im just telling you the truth of it all. apply if its your dream thats all i can say.

However, im pretty sure you cannot apply with your first lang as your target lang. its just not allowed.

What akkipenn said is incorrect about the target language. You are allowed to target your native language (as in, it’s not “not allowed”, like he said) but it is discouraged. The odds are small for anyone, but if it’s where you want to be, then apply! Good luck.

i spoke to the huntsman director and she is like its ‘highly discouraged’ as it ‘disregards the motive of the program’. And joe, i am not talking about native language, i am talking about First Language!

The study abroad part of the program would be completely useless, if you had to go back to your home country.
Large part of the program is about experiencing foreign cultures.
