How many internships should I try to participate in before I graduate? I heard the more the better..

(I'm a 1st year undergrad looking to head into the field of finance.)

Thanks.

I'd suggest to do as many as you can, with at least 2 different opportunities so you can compare what you like/dislike. This is the prime time to build up your resume and take a job in a field of your interest, so definitely be on the lookout for internships.

five is the minimum amount of internships you must do to get a job

@ yahooo

Five is very extreme and uncommon. I would say having at least one (if not two) internships throughout college will help you land a job. Working part-time throughout college helps too. It shows you have strong organizational skills. Make sure to list extracurriculars too on your resume. Employers want to hear leadership roles.

When you say that it's extreme, do you mean that it's a bit excessive and employers would look unfavorably at it?

Also, I'm not sure, but I heard employers don't care much about extracurriculars, but more about work experience.. Is that true?

@ yahooo

Employers value work experience and extracurriculars from college students. They know not to compare students to seasoned employees who may have more than 10 years of work experience. They want unique students who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence and creativity/passion.

I was actually joking. one or two substantial internshipss are more than enough.

i'd recommend doing two...

but that's from an ece major standpoint.

i'm guessing from the people above me said it applies to finance too.

I actually have two internships already, and I just applied for my third one. If I continue at this rate, I'm definitely going to have about 5-6 by the time I graduate... Is this too excessive?

@yahoo

no, you should reach at least 20

Stop asking stupid questions, yahoo. Seriously.

you guys now understand why O couldn't resist from giving a stupid answer to his initially inane question.

Dumb question I agree.
