How many internships do you believe are required to even get a look from an IB? I'm not connected in any way or form so it will be hard for me. I can fall back on other things, but I like the idea of IB...possibly.

But how many internships do you need to be considered a good candidate? Also, I understand the internship process is pretty rigorous. Day long testing and technical interviews. Does this sound about right?

I'd say you should try to have some sort of work/internship experience each summer you are in college. It is better if you work in the finance industry, but something is better than nothing. Your best bet is to try to get a job at a smaller bank your first two summers then try to get an internship at a big name bank your third summer (or continue on at the smaller bank if they really like you because it will be more likely to turn into a job when you graduate).

^won't it be hard for international students to get jobs at the smaller banks? how do internationals generally fare in the internship search process?

I've spoken with people who work at some of the big banks and it seems that by far the most important internship is the junior year one. Why? Most big banks offer a good deal of their job openings to interns from their own programs.

So you don't specifically need to have IB internships the years before your junior/senior summer, but they won't hurt at all. Just work on making yourself as appealing as possible to future employers (leadership hint hint)

For an international with the limited OPT, can we only be hired by the BB (ie BB or nothing) as only they will sponsor our work visas? Do boutiques hire internationals and sponsor their visas? Do they send the intels they hired overseas, eg London, HK, Spore?

Let's say we use up all our OPT in internships.. eg first 2 summers in small banks, last one at a BB, then if we get hired by a BB, will tehy definitely sponsor our visa or will they send us overseas or they won't even consider us for any positions?

I've worked at a bank. I was a supervisor. Retail though. I'm also applying to a credit union. I applied last night and they called me at 8 in the morning, so I think its in the bag. I'll also be going to Cornell. I know a guy who works at citadel, but he might be leaving soon (he's trying something with his brother). I also don't think he has "pull". My cousins friend's brother (haha) has his own hedge fund, but I'm not tight with him at all.
