How many int'l students to Columbia?

Are any of you applying to Columbia?
If you are .. ED or RD?

And where are you from/ where are you applying from?

silver_warez, I can't think of a better person to ask:

How is Columbia with finaid for intls? Almost impossible??

HAHAHA! I'm not even in yet.. but I get a Columbia question directed to me.. NEAT! :)
Columbia is very bad with finaid for internationals..

It is literally impossible.. If you are applying for finaid you practically have no chance for ED....
It's def. not need blind for international students...

Try Wesleyan.. or Claremont McKenna.. I think even Yale is more generous with finaid for int'ls.. but the first 2 schools I mentioned are very sensitive with intl students finaid needs.. (off the top of my head)

Hope that helps astrix..

actually they are good with fin ONLY if you apply ED

and Astrix, why are you so bothered, aren't you heading to Princeton ;)

No that's not true hello....
Columbia is not generous with finaid to intl students.. and you have virtually no chance if you apply ED requesting finaid.

My college cousellor said so... and it's a known fact.

Hmm thanks silver. Luck to you!

hello, 12 days!!

And btw, I always read your handle as silver_warez. Just noticed you're wavez waves

yeh it's waveZ lol... it's just a SN that has stuck since grade 5 lol...
quite lame but anyhoo..

ya.. so are any of u applying to columbia?

I am applying to Columbia College ED. And I requested financial aid...I know a guy from China applied financial aid to Columbia last year and got in; according to what he said, deferral is likely to happen to me (although I think rejection is more likely) because Columbia wants to compare all international applicants requesting financial aid in the regular decision round.
But I know competition is keen...my chance is close to 0.

Did the guy from China get accepted ED ?

If you're in TX how are you international?

Okay calm down. I have very little idea about undergrad. BUt most of the kids who got o IVYs from international are mostly coming from very rich families or politically influential families. On other hand if you are exceptional you may have a chance to be admitted. I see lot of international student claiming that they are the top from thier country, but Ivy school adcom are savy and would verify that. Anyway good luck

Ok, well I was asking sweetbee a question.

And in general.. I'm asking the int'l students out there..who is applying to Columbia?

But anyway... where do you go chinaman?
And I think you may be quite right about --> "kids who got o IVYs from international are mostly coming from very rich families or politically influential families."

Well I came to the U.S. 3 years ago, and I'm not U.S. citizen or permanent resident, so I'm counted as international. The guy at Columbia was in the same situation as I, except that he spent 3 years at a high school in another state in the U.S. I believe he's exceptional academically. He got a lot of fin aid at Columbia.

Well Columbia obviously saw a lot of potential and good qualities in him..
So you're applying ED, and he did too?

I'm sure you will have a chance... well, it's only 8 days left now.. Just wait and see.

Actually he applied RD last year.
8 days.... yeah I'll find out then..

Yeh.. I've just heard that if you're int'l and apply ED requesting finaid, it's really really tough!

I guess if they really want you they'll accept you, or maybe defer you.. and then consider you wilth all the other int'l students requesting for finaid from the RD pool...

i am aplying to columbia
frm Nepal and im also applyin 4 fin aid

oh n im an rd

i'll apply rd to columbia..

and guys, esp silver_waves, come on! applying as an intl isn't that bad... really!!
i mean you said:

i think even Yale is more generous with finaid for int'ls
yale IS need-blind with intl, so it can't be more than that... (i suppose it's full need too)
OR
most of the kids who got o IVYs from international are mostly coming from very rich families or politically influential families [...] or are exceptional
wtf? if i had read this some time ago, i would have had 2nd thoughts about princeton... and i'm sure it aint like this.. i ***in' can't!! and thaaaa!!! *everybody has to be exceptional to get into ivy's, right? so what's the point emphasizing that intl have to be so too?!?

i hate it when ppl are negativistic... boils with self-inflicted anger

Yes, Yale does meet full demonstrated need...
