How many is too much?

Hey guys I’m going to be a junior this year and took an SAT last december and ended up with an 1870. that obviously wont cut it for anything so I’m planning to take it again.
The only problem is that the SAT is changing etc and I want to take the test before it changes. This means I have only the October , November , Decmber and January tests to do

I was thinking of doing all four of them giving me a total of 5 SAT tests, 1 in sophmore year and 4 in junior year.

is that a good idea? is it too much?

At that point, any high score you get is not going to be nearly as impressive. Pick two of those dates and save your money and time.

Yes, I agree with bodangles. Do some intense, quality prep and take it well once instead of just going again and again. What areas do you struggle with?

You can take it that many times, but I would never send more than 3 scores to any school. I do believe in scores jumping up for no apparent reason. That did happen to both my daughters–one went from a 670 to 720 verbal; the other from 680 to 780 in writing. That was in a short period of time with no additional practice.

However, if you are not happy with your SAT scores after the second retake, I would try taking the ACT. One D kept getting 630 to 650 in math, but nailed a 35 on the ACT math twice.

At a presentation for a top 20 LAC, an admissions person said 3 SAT attempts is pretty much the limit. The implied message was anything after 3 tries started standing out in a negative way.

money is not a concern to me to be honest. I’m just wondering if it would be too much, would the sophmore one count as a test too? Im applying to Upenn and they need all the scores to be sent

bunp

If they require all scores to be sent, I definitely would not take the test more than 3 times in total (so 2 more times). The higher score you may get from taking the test over and over again will be far outweighed by the admissions officers’ perception of you as somebody who is obsessed with test-taking and doing things to look good for colleges, rather than someone with an interesting personality who has explored their genuine interests and passions. Plus I think taking the test so many times really won’t help that much? If you prepare well for each one by doing lots of practice tests, rather than treating the real thing as practices, then you should be fine.

thanks for your advise! Im rly trying im around low 2000s right now and I’m kind of stuck there.

making stupid mistakes on math

critical reading comprehensions are hard for me, losing most of the points there and not vocabulary

i usaully just get 3 mistakes on writing overall but the essay is what lowers my score

I really need 2250 or over to be considered for wharton
