How many kids will UVA accept from one school

I'm out of state and there is thois really smart kid who is applying...will that hurt my chances

0-33 are chosen dependent on region, school, and student credentials. My valedictorian roomate last year was the student from his high school at UVA.

Seriously, 5 out of 8 students that came from my high school were ranked higher than me. That really smart kid will not hurt your chances.

is 33 the max?

33 is the largest number I have heard which is held by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County, Virginia.

As many as are qualified.

dude UVA gets like 200 kids every year from TJ

Many TJ students are accepted, and about 100 attend UVA. The 33 number is closer to Norfolk Academy, a private school in Hampton Roads, which sends about a 1/3 of its class to uva.

I misread/forgot my info. It was 133. I just got a bit dyslexic. Besides, it still stands that goodcolleges' chances are not affected by his classmates.

my school sends like 20-25 each year

^^^wat school do u go to?

theres like 150 from that Thomas Jefferson magnet school this year. One of them told me.

-goodcolleges

I go to Oakton High School in Vienna, VA

pretty big, 2000+ students; around 700 are in my graduating class

There are no limits placed on the number of students we can accept from one school. The only mandate we have from the state legislature is one dictating that 2/3 of the student body be Virginia residents.

^ very true.

however the few things i would look at and be careful of are this. if you are an oos student, and 10 people apply to uva from your school, it works against you unless you're the best applicant. more than likely uva will not take more than 2 or 3 kids from 1 school OOS. your goal is not to be compared to people who you can be objectively compared to.

Even out of state, I can assure you that the number of students applying from your school will not hurt. My son's school is out of state, and sent 18 last year and 21 this year. Something like 35 were admitted, and the class only has 195.

Hartin,

maybe if your son goes to a school like exeter, mka, lawrenceville or some other prestigious high school, then they will accepts tons of students. the fact is 99.999% of high schools not in virginia don't really get more than 2 or 3 kids into the school in a given year.

my school got 4 in lol..but i think like 7 applied

We don't read by region or by school. We run school lists at the end of the application review process because we don't read by school. It's a way for us to see if we've been inconsistent.

I've never heard any of my colleagues say we have to deny some students because we had too many from their school. We're trying to build a great class. Having school quotas wouldn't be in our best interest.
