My high school life is miserable. I'm one of those asians (south asian) who studies hard and does a bunch of extra cirriculars. I have zero social life and I've never dated. I hate high school, but I hear that college is amazing and that high school is fairly insignificant. What are your insights on high school life vs. college life. Feel free to talk about your opinions on high school, and give me advice on whether college actualyl provides salvation for the socially inept.

IMO, if you don’t change, college life will be similar to HS life. Though a lot of asians who sudden seem is have a “life” in college is because they are no longer living with their overbearing parents. Last year (my HS junior year), when my dad went back to China for a few months and my mom is really chills, i had the best time ever, went out every weekend and stuff. But once my dad got back, its back to the SAT books lmao.

High school is fine for me tbh, I’m chinese.
Also, no it doesn’t, it provides a chance for you to become socially capable.

I do. I play sports, hang out with friends, study a fair amount. balance is key.

Except for the work (which I am continuingly ignoring thanks to being a senior…), I love it.

I hate high school. It isn’t so much the working hard (though that’s part of it) as the people. Perhaps I just don’t like school, though.

I dislike high school because of the low maturity levels of the majority of the people in it.

I’m serious.

I know people with the maturity level of a five year old.

And I’m not one of those “you should be super serious all the time because you’re an adult” people.

I goof off with my friends all the time.

I just don’t do it when we’re in the middle of a review lecture for our test the next day (and of course, end up whining out loud about how unfair the grading is because you didn’t pay attention during the lecture and got an F) or when the principle is explaining an important senior function in front of the entire class (causing him to stop and yell at all of us for being immature).

Seriously, guys, act your age. There is a point where acting like a ■■■■■■ stops being funny and starts being really annoying.

Basically, I dislike the fact that a lot of my peers don’t understand when they should act like the adults they are supposed to be.

I can only hope that in college, people are generally serious and mature about things they should be serious and mature about.

-hopes-

I’m having a blast.

Really though. I am.

Some aspects, such as friends, social opportunities, etc, I like.

Not the greatest fan of HS - but I don’t really “hate” it.

I used to enjoy high school. Then I moved. So far, my new school falls short of everything that I was used to and liked. That’s why I can’t wait to go to college and just start over with everything…re-invent myself if you will.

I love highschool. It’s really fun. :]

There are certainly facets that I dislike with a passion, the maturity factor being one of them.

But I overall don’t hate or even dislike it. I do feel that you only experience high school once and you should enjoy it while you can.

“I just don’t do it when we’re in the middle of a review lecture for our test the next day (and of course, end up whining out loud about how unfair the grading is because you didn’t pay attention during the lecture and got an F) or when the principle is explaining an important senior function in front of the entire class (causing him to stop and yell at all of us for being immature).”

Haha…you’d HATE me. Unless the class was APUSH and I respected the teacher a lot, or it was a class I sucked at and needed to work like spanish.

But yeah. Except for the crap grades…I fit your bill.

I basically live the life you mentioned in your OP, no “life,” tons of ECs, etc. But I really do quite like high school. I hate AP World, because it’s boring, but otherwise, school is fun.
I haven’t had an interest in a social life since 9th grade. I experienced it, going out every weekend and what not, and then I let it go. I still have my friends, and maybe once a month or once every other month, I’ll do something with them, but I’d rather chill at home. My ECs are my life. I’m not going to miss a ballet class to do something with you, no matter how much I love you. I’m not going to see a movie with you and skip Sunday volunteering. I won’t go to get ice cream after school with you and miss quiz team. It’s not happening.
As long as I’m happy, who cares? I hate it when people tell you to live a certain way, when they get all Tyler Durden-y and say “you’re becoming a statistic.” It’s sanctimonious.
Okay, now I’m repeating one of my college essays, so I should shut up.

I LOVED high school. The classes were a joke, my friends were fantastic, had a lovely boyfriend from freshman year until now (soph in college), was very involved in theater and clubs.

Oh, I miss high school lol.

It’s not that my high school life sucks, it’s just that I hate it.
I don’t know why.
Kind of like how some people believe freshmen are a reason for abortion, I hate high school.
Because I just DO.

High school is like the rest of your childhood. You don’t appreciate it until it’s gone and then you wish you would have done more.

Don’t mean to sound pretentious, lol.

I wish i could enjoy high school but my parents are so strict. I’m really allowed to go out with my friends to much and high school parties are out of the question. I see my friends at school and we email eachother. I’m not allowed to have a facebook or date either. I feel like high school would be really fun and probably is for most people at my school( I go to a suburban, upper middle class, preppy) high school. That’s why I can’t wait to go to college and make my own rules and actually get to socialize with people outside of school.

personally, I love it. I am having the time of my life senior year.
have a nice girlfriend, great friends, a car! lol

and to think college is going to be even better, I can’t ****ing wait!

It’s a love/hate relationship for me. I really enjoy messing around with my friends and there are a small number of teachers/coaches who I genuinely respect. But most classes are nothing more than boring busywork, and I despise a lot of the idiots at my school.
