How many of you believe in God?

I was just wondering about it the other day.

why do some of you believe in a god?

I don't believe in any god, but I can understand the reasons for some people though.

I do not believe in God or any religion(personally I think religion is a terrible thing, but don't hate others for having it).

^I pretty much agree.

I'm amused. Not often that one recreates a person and a thread.

^ lol.

I do, although I'm probably in the minority here on CC.

i do... its just a personal belief
it doesnt matter whether other people believe in it or not

i'm pretty much agnostic... i'm just not sure. so many things are explained really poorly in my opinion by the catholic church (i go to a catholic school, my family is "non-practicing catholic" w/e that means) and a lot of things about the church just bother me. but im not sure that means there isn't a god, i think people (priests, nuns, popes, etc) these days just mess everything up. or i need to explore other religions further but i dont know of many that sound very appealing.

I believe in the Christian God of heaven, for the Bible truly has great meaning and a great framework for daily living.

I don't believe in God. I fully believe in science and that life is, fundamentally, materialistic, not moral or emotion-based. When I feel happy, it's because my endocrine system is releasing certain hormones that trigger certain neurons to tell my brain that I'm happy. Everything else is just perception, and it's relative. But it's not like I let these beliefs control my life. I take it for what it is; I don't try to analyze it beyond what I've described so far.

Well said theoneo. Religion is opium. It takes away meaning in life and just leaves you high, but you don't know why. This world is scientific and logical, not controlled by some priests that always want to steal your money or make you go to hell. But anyways, the people that want to believe in God, go ahead. Whatever floats your boat.

Word. If you want to waste your life letting religion control you, go ahead.

deja vu!

I don't really believe in organized religion. I think people compromise their own beliefs when they agree to join a church and submit to all of its teachings. I believe in a personal spirituality for everyone--people being true to themselves and molding their own opinions and ideas as to how the world works into their own religion, separate from everyone else.

I'm agnostic, but I think I probably believe in some sort of higher power. I don't think we're all an accident.

I believe in God and all of the simlpe belief-stuff. I have no patience fr the mechanics and politics of the church, and the Bible is, to me, the word of man. Good men, interesting men, God-fearing men, but men.

Nope, I'm an atheist

I'm a member of the Methodist Church, but more importantly the Kingdom of God. I believe that the only true way to assure admittance into heaven is through believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save our sins, no matter what your denomination is. Though churches can sometimes be filled with corruption, I do think it is good to belong to one.

"I believe that the only true way to assure admittance into heaven is through believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save our sins, no matter what your denomination is."

see that's what one of my major problems with the whole church thing. i think if someone lives a good life, is nice to others, etc, they should go to heaven (if there is a heaven). no matter what church they are affiliated with or what have you.

Not again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't there just a huge thread on this in the Cafe?

erhswimming, you are the main reason I hate religion.
