How many of you believe in God?

Agnosticc. But i go to Catholic school and i knoww the standard Hail Mary and Our Father. haha.

I believe in God.

OMG THERE WAS THIS HUGE Evil Thread ON THIS ALREADY. SATAN, CAN YOU LEAVE US POOR CC'ERS THE HELL ALONE ALREADY!?! GOD, DELIVER US FROM THESE REINCARNATIONS OF SATAN AKA GOD THREADS!!!!!

Why did Jesus die for our sins again?

The Bible is just another fable created by some people who wanted to get money. Currently, it's the number one selling book in the world.

Always trying to steal your money.

i knew that! our religion teachers tell us this all the time haha.

the.j.shi.... The bible was written long before books could be sold around the world, and in the past it was owned only by the church since its distribution was much too expensive (ie. before the printing-press). Your argument is full of fallacies... it couldn't have been created to make profit because that kind of enterprise was impossible at the time. I do think that the Bible was created to spread God's word and ensure its survival throughout the ages.

I'm a Greek-Orthodox Christian. I believe in God.

I hate the way politicans use religion as an excuse to make policy and how the very things they are advocating go against what we are taught. Thus, I am one of few Chrisitan liberals that I have been able to find in my community (conservative Alberta... paint the town BLUE!). Too often conservatism is associated with christianity, when really it shouldn't be. We should act based on love towards mankind, and not hatred or discrimination, which I find is often an element in the conservative agenda as they try to tell people they aren't "good christians" or "good people" because of their political beliefs.

And maybe I'm just a romantic, but the whole "life is science" argument makes no sense to me. In a pragmatic sort of way it might work, but the beauty of life is often found in the inexplicable. :)

I've been an athiest since birth.

Something that is inexplicable is not necessarily spiritual...and I can't think of anything that is inexplicable such that we KNOW there is no explanation. Maybe I'm just defining inexplicable as "not currently knowable."

I'm a guilty agnostic, by the way.

guilty? why so?

I believe that the only true way to assure admittance into heaven is through believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save our sins,

Heaven!? lol good one.

Doh, there's was a claim that someone, citing, "believes in science." While I respect science and pursue it, I am also perfectly aware that science is not a something one could believe. This is just because science is changing all the times, three hundred years ago, science wasn't 5% of what it is nowadays.

So, when someone says that he's happy because "endocrine system is releasing certain hormones", I say, - Ha-ha, - and wait for another thousand years to hear another explanation of happiness related on something like parallel worlds from String Theory.

Now, assuming all abovesaid, let's imagine someone, who lives an infinite number of years. Of course, that means that this someone also possesses an infinite amount knowledge. While we only have some countable amount of knowledge, gained through the lifespan of civilization, when we'll compare our knowledge with infinite knowledge we see that our knowledge equals ZERO.
So, how can we prove/disprove existence of someone then?

I do not place my faith in any 'higher power.'

However, I do rather enjoy thinking about existence, and I love reading religious texts.

I think there should be something else out there. It would be awful sad to think that we are the only ones here. I do however have many issues with organized religion. I was raised Buddhist but have studied religion in college and it has only made me doubt it more. If Jesus were to come back today I think he'd be ****ed off about how many people keep misquoting him and are spreading the wrong message.

This is really sad. I don't like hate people for being agnostic or atheist or whatever, but from these threads I get the feeling that I in going to a good school I'm going to find myself with all of 5 other kids on campus that are plain old practicing Christians.

I think people need to remember that religions (most religions) are faith based. When people start pushing their "faith" based religion on others it becomes tyranny.

"When people start pushing their "faith" based religion on others it becomes tyranny." Yes, like Iran and Saudi Arabia. But no one here has suggested doing such a thing.

drummer,

the neocons in this country are certianly pushing their beliefs upon moderate americans.
issues such as the right-to-death, right to abortion, putting creationism and intelligent design in public schools, etc.

DONT BRING THIS UP AGAIN

LET IT DIE.

I already chased one bible thumper off of this site, i dont wanna do it again

I don't believe in God because of religion. Many religions claim that their way of worship is the right way and people who don't participate in their sect will go to hell or at least not to heaven. What makes me think that God can't be real is that why would he punish those who worship in the wrong way, as some religions/sects claim? And why wouldn't he just have one religion where everyone is united and there are no questions about who goes to heaven? I recognize religion as a necessary, uniting force that has provided answers and comfort for as long as humans have been on earth, and it motivates and moralizes people who would not otherwise be so inspired. But just because people need to believe doesn't make God real.

AAAH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD/DOGS
