I did one and ended up loving it. My interviewer was so sweet, but I was wondering if any of you guys had issues because several of my friends had issues with getting one scheduled since noone would contact them back. If you did do an interview, what was your experience? Also, how much do you think it will help with your admissions decision in regards to other deciding factors? :)

I didn’t do an arranged alumni interview…I ended up having a meeting with the Dean of Admissions. It was still awesome, he was a great guy and I think I impressed him with my realism about college admissions :)

Anyway, I think any sort of interview helps add a personal dimension to your app. Vanderbilt didn’t really require extra essays, so I was thrilled to get a chance to put a bit of my personality into the mix.

I emailed someone on their Alumni contact interviewer list, but he had already moved to Boston (they should update their list!). I then emailed another lady and she was so nice and friendly! The only thing I regret a bit is that I felt like she didn’t ask me anything about my extracurriculars… the interview itself, I thought, didn’t bring a new perspective of me to Vandy. But oh well. What’s done is done; I tried my best.

i did! my interviewer was very nice and well informed about the school. we talked about my extracurriculars, high school and about the old Jewish quota O_O

Since Vanderbilt did get more competitive this year, i think an interview might actually help a lot because it shows that you’re actually interested in the school. At least i’m hoping it will haha

Vanderbilt does not use demonstrated interest as a factor in the admissions process. Sorry freethefork.
However, they do consider the interview if it is completed.

This information can be found under section C7 on the Vanderbilt Common Data Set: https://virg.vanderbilt.edu/virgweb/CDSC.aspx?year=2009

thanks for the info zmoose27!

i guess i’ll just have to rely on my numbers and essays to woo them over XD
I don’t think that’ll happen

It was weird. I’m an American studying abroad, but Vanderbilt seemed to have alumni in almost every city but the capital. So I decided against doing an interview.
