I am just wondering...

I think it would help if you specified a department.

i got interview from MIT Biology

So eastcoastbound: did they call you or email you about the interview?

my buddy in mit called me up last week and i received email and package last wednesday.

I applied to Bio but have not heard back.

I applied to HST through the chemical engineering department and have not heard anything yet.

i applied to BCS, and haven't heard from it

eastcoastbound you appear to be the only one who's heard from them so far, when is their interview weekend?

My son received a rejection letter yesterday --Biology deptartment. We were hoping -he is highly qualified etc, excellent scores, research experience and published, but it wasnt meant to be. He has Yale sewn up, so it isn't too bad

NJBeaglemom, how many schools did your son apply to?

He applied to Harvard, MIT, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Pitt, Vanderbilt and Stanford. He was going to apply to Berkeley and CalTech, but he had gotten a glowing letter from Yale's admission committee at that point and decided to not spend the money. I think he would rather stay on the East Coast. He hasn't heard from anyone else as yet.

NJBeagleMom, which Yale program/track did he apply to?

BioChem. I did so many of those applications, some places it was a Chem-Bio interface, some integrated life sciences, some actually had BioChem. So, his is only applicable to that track. Not straight biology. Sorry, I should have said that. Hope I didn't make you nervous :)

FB: my interview is feb 12th. other interview dates are feb 26th and march 12th.

NJ: i heard the collaboration between MIT chem and bio is not that great. i have serious doubt about going there myself. did your son applied to cornell? i heard their tri-institute training program is pretty good.

Hey guys,

Yeah collaboration between MIT Bio and Chem (specially on the Chem side, not Bio) is really bad so keep that in mind when making a decision. MIT Bio is a really good department though.

You both made me feel better about the whole thing. Thank you.

No, he didn't apply to Cornell. I don't know why. He picked a variety obviously, so he must have had some criteria for choosing. There are so many from which to choose. My brother went to MIT and encouraged him to apply, so that may have been why he chose MIT.

Yale is also a good place so I think your son has nothing to worry about! Wish him all the best!

second to that

Thank you. I wish all of you the best as well.
