How many of you UC applicants will also apply to USC?

With the upcoming February 1st application deadline, I'm still reluctant and undecided on applying to USC. So I was wondering how many of you fellow UC applicants are/were on the same boat. What are/were your reasons for your decision?

It’s a good school, but I won’t be applying because tuition there is way too high. Plus, I just can’t see myself attending SC.

UCLA/USC were my top-2 schools when I was starting out in CC, but USC just ended up being way too expensive and they don’t have an academic forgiveness policy like the UCs. I had a couple bad semesters at CC that I fixed later on, so USC wouldn’t have taken my anyway.

How does USC treat students who make up their poor grades for A’s?

USC doesn’t have an academic forgiveness policy, so if you take a class and get an F, then retake it and get an A, both grades get counted.

I applied. It took a while to write the personal statement. So many prompts.

Wow, theyre policy isnt going to help me.

@Ferarri- I’m planning to shorten my UC essay and use it for USC. Did you guys go back to your high schools for your transcript?

@^ i will go back right when i get their decision.

Oh did you put them on the common app?

Oh wow. I had no idea about USC’s academic foregiveness policy. That’s a deal-breaker for me as well. Thanks for the heads up.

I was going to apply also for engineering until I found out they don’t accept academic forgiveness. Oh well, there is always grad school!

Does that mean they count both the f and the other grade as two separate courses or do they average them?

Yup all grades, whether passing or not, are counted and they don’t honor academic renewals either from what I’ve heard.

@uschopeful2013:

This is from their site:

“If you repeat a transferable course, each grade earned in that course will be used to calculate the transfer GPA for admission. Further, USC does not honor academic renewal or academic forgiveness programs that allow students to improve recorded substandard academic performance.”

I might apply just for the “fun” of it…as in lets see if I can get in…

for some reason everyone says that USC transfer financial aid is super generous etc. but idk we shall see.

Their financial aid packages are quite good, as with most private universities. Almost every student their gets some sort of aid from the school and in a lot of situations it ends up being cheaper than attending a UC. My sister is an alumni and SC covered all her tuition which was her deciding factor in choosing SC over UCLA. I am thinking of applying as well just to keep my options open. I did receive academic renewal in the past too although a counselor told me they are more holistic in their approach to applications so they wouldn’t likely hold it against a qualified applicant if they have good reason for the previous poor performance.

i am. how time-consuming is the application?

it’s super longgg D: and the UC personal statements dont really cater to the USC prompts. Maybe 30% of my UC went to USC essay.

They got a crazy question for the engineer supplement tooo arggg.

I might apply just to see what happens…

keep in mind the css profile and other financial aid info is due feb 2 to be considered for financial aid
