How Many of You Will be Commuter Students?

Our son was (finally) accepted this morning ... so those of you who are still waiting, I believe there is still hope; I'm guessing that the UC campuses were simply bombarded with apps this year, and they didn't realize the impact of that.

I'm curious how many of you will stick around on weekends, and how many will disappear. (I think the best thing UCI could do would be to accept a good number of students from outside their area, to keep the campus more lively over weekends!)

I'm from norcal, so i'll be around during most weekends.

i only live 20 min away but for the first year at least ill bein a dorm ... thats if i get accepted...im still waiting for a decision -_-

I haven't decided whether or not I am going to attend UCI yet or not, but if I do, I will for the most part be there during most weekends. I live in socal but I don't plan on going home that often. I hope most will do the same.

I live 45 mins away... I'll go home pretty often!

I live about 40 minutes away from UCI but I doubt I'll be going home EVERY weekend (maybe just once a month?) so I'll probably be sticking around the campus on weekends too. (:

I'll be there. I'm from the Bay Area (Walnut Creek), so I won't be going home too often...

I live about 45 minutes away so I figure I'll stay at UCI most weekends and come home once or twice a month to do laundry and shake my dad down for money.

hey, I live about 45 minutes away from UCI as well. Hmm, are we all from around the same place? I will probably go home more often at the beginning...

If I go there, I'll be there most weekends, since I'm from Nor Cal. x)

i hope uci has a more lively social life next fall :]

i live 20 min away from uci, but i'll be living in the dorm for first year or two if I decide to go to uci.

norcal, so I'll be staying on campus unless it's a long, long break :)

Plane tickets are expensive, and driving 6 hours home isn't fun.

^^ ditto. norcal too.

I won't be a commuter. I'll be there all the time.

Flying up to Norcal isn't too bad. You can fly to Oakland/Sacramento/San Jose from Orange County on Southwest Airlines for about 110 dollars round trip.

What's a commuter student?

I mean I have a rough idea, but can someone elaborate?

A commuter student is one who isn't living on campus, but drives in from home; a lot of students at UCI, from what I understand, live at home with parents. Because of this, some say the campus doesn't really feel like your typical college campus. I have heard that the place is fairly deserted on weekends. I'm hoping this isn't the case ...?

what if i decide to rent out an apartment right next to the campus, am i considered a commuter student?

Are you talking something like Vista Del Campo? I think of those students as on campus. At the same time, I know a lot of them leave for the weekend as well. So maybe they ARE commuter students. Dunno.

If you have to drive in and park I think of you as a commuter student. But what do students who GO there think? Anyone? Anyone?
