How many of you?

Said that you'd start all over at a community college and get straight A's and join good clubs and volunteer a lot....and once you got into college you did not put in the effort you promised you would and ended up with a 3.0 average instead of that perfect stats that you wished for?

Basically you were so inspired and had all this potential but it was all talk

Because here's my story, in my first two years of high school I did not care at all, after that every year I said I would work my hardest and get perfect grades, I did well (3.00), but never kept my promise...now I am confused if it really was because it was easier talking about it or if I felt that I was too late because I was only CSU qualified (so I was not motivated)

Now I want to ask you guys because it's a fresh start and want to know if you kept your promise.

P.S. oh and im saying things like I'll learn how to speak spanish but I've noticed that I think in a way like oh I want to learn spanish! and not consider that it would take effort.

Well, I pretty much slacked off in high school. I was a low B-C student and i am disappointed with myself for every moment of it because I could of done much better. My only ec's were ice hockey and my schools roller hockey club. I applied to some colleges but to no avail.But... thats all in the past now.
At the end of my senior year I made a promise to myself, I would go to the college I wanted and prove I was not that person I was. I went to community college, finished in two years with honors, joined clubs of interest, and got myself accepted to UMiami and Rutgers my two schools. Im happy I kept my promise. Good Luck!!

Harvard Business,

I had a 2.8 out of 4.0 in high school. Got rejected by multiple teachers for recommendation letters. Basically had a horrible high school career.

I went to NYU(currently attending) and now have a 3.89, and receieved extremely favorable recs from my professors.

Turning things around were tough. But I read some awesome books on how to succeed in college(I know, they sound so NERDY), but they helped me tremendously and really turned my life around.

I've applied to several schools for transfers..haven't heard back yet.
But if I do, then I will tell you.

I really hope you have a good new fresh start and finish strong.

^^ You went to NYU with a 2.8?

Anyway, in my highschool, I graduated with a 0.0 (59). I somehow MIRACULOUSLY got into a 3.0 level college. In college, I started off slow (obviously) with a 2.2 because I had no highschool experience.

Now im working my way up and my total GPA is a 3.25 (with 2 F makeups). So far, my gpa this semester for 18 credits looks like its going to be a 3.8, and will probably be around 3.4ish after this semester

Im applying to NYU

k1man,

CAS, Stern, Tisch? Which 1?

cas

Im only applying because I know someone else who got in from my college with a 3.2(gives me 1% chance), but i doubt ill get in

k1man,

so you haven't applied yet? Well, if you're applying this coming year,
definitely apply to Gallatin then switch out to CAS once you arrive at NYU.
Internal transfers are feasible(though not so to Stern).

3.2 is decent for Gallatin.

also if money ain't a problem,
don't apply for financial aid, as adcoms loveeee it.
NYU is short on money.

I have already applied to CAS and am waiting for decisions this week. If I dont get in, i would apply to Gallatin for next spring.

Thanks for the response

ssl did you apply to gallatin?

nah CAS.

if you're insecure about your GPA but absolutely love NYU,
then another option is to specifically state in your application
that you would like to begin your studies at one of the NYU Study Abroad sites in London, Paris, Florence, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, and UAE.

Each site has NYU professors from New York (they take turns), but students are usually hesitant, so the number is a bit low.

You would spend a semester there and come back(no worries about credit transfer becuz u take NYU classes taught by NYU professors with NYU grading system and basically everything NYU).

Plus, the experience seems awesome.

Why do you want to go to NYU?

my school is generally geared towards business only, and its arts and science program is unknown. Its like 99% accounting or finance majors, and 1% others. I dont feel like I fit in being the 1%

One mistake I wrote on my nyu app is that I wanted to major in politics, because thats what I plan on majoring, but I havent done anything to merit my interests
