Harvard is a supersupersupersuper-reach school for me ... as it probably is with most students... i applied to 15 schools and i still dont' feel safe lol what are your numbers?

I applied to 10 schools!

i applied to 10 schools total

Quiltmom here...our son only applied to 7... with 1 safety... but in California he is guaranteed at least one Univ of Calif campus due to his grades/ class rank. Also applied to Harvard/ MIT...reach schools.

I applied to 10. Most of them were combined medical programs which I don't plan on attending.

Hi epsilon- I'm just curious, why did you apply to combined medical programs that you don't plan on attending?

S applied to 5. S (EA), H, Y, M, and a state U.

Well, initially I applied to all of them assuming that I would attend those over the University of Michigan. However, after learning so much about other schools and the potential I have outside of these programs, I think I'll be better off just attending Umich and "risking" not getting into medical school. I think it's the best bet as far as my personal goals go.

I'm considering interviewing for a few of them purely for the experience, because medicine is my ultimate goal, but it seems like the work involved just isn't worth it if I'm not enthusiastic about the programs.

I dropped a few of them already. I think I'll drop the rest this week.

I'm really hoping for either Harvard or Yale. The interviews I had absolutely sold me on both of those schools. Obviously, my chances aren't that great, but if I got in to either of them, I'd definitely go. It seems like such a personal, involved process and they really do a great job of luring prospective candidates in.

The alumni interview, even if it does affect admissions, is primarily an advertising tool. Not a bad one, like those idiotic HeadON commercials, but a cool one. Before I had interviews with Harvard and Yale alumni, I wasn't really too excited about either, but now they seem like the places TO BE.

The advice I would give any junior in HS right now is to apply to one or two safeties, one moderate, and then a bunch of top-notch schools.

If any 8th, 9th, or even 10th graders are reading this, all I can tell you is to pursue your passions. I really made a mistake here. I have always liked certain things and I probably could have done some amazing stuff if I would have just given it the shot. However, having that typical mindset of "this isn't going to have any practical advantage in life, so why bother" screwed me over.

If you have an interest in something, follow it and pursue it completely. Don't force yourself into the National Honor Society because it looks good. If you don't like it, quit and start your own club that you really love.

So I guess it's more about shaping the future, huh?

I applied to 11 schools total.
I was already rejected from Penn and accepted to Bentley College with a 1/2 tuition scholarship. (rejected from my dream school and accepted to my ultra safety lol) Now lets see where all my matches fall. (and reaches ----> Harvard :p)

Lol, you are gonna laugh at this, but other than H, I only applied to Yale and UPenn.

No, I'm not crazy. It's just that I'm from Canada, and since my ultra-safety is University of Toronto, I decided that I'd give the Ivies a try. If not, I'll always be quite content to go to U of Toronto.

U of T is pretty good, I hear.

Why not the University of Michigan? It's right next door!

I applied to 7 with 1 safety and 1 match.

7 schools total consisting of three safeties (full rides to all three) and 4 reaches HYP, UPenn Wharton

10 seems to be a popular number, same here

epsilon9090,
U of T is definitely pretty good - ranking around #25-35 top universities in the world. Michigan's a good school too, but I think I'd stay in my hometown + the city that I love and save a few bucks (tuition's only $5000 CND/year, and plus I can get some decent scholarships)!!

11 total, including 4 UC's. All others are reaches/super reaches.

Wow. How about that for a nice subsidized education!

Applied to 4, Yale (got in EA), Stanford, Harvard and Brown. These are the only four that I felt even a remote interest about. H is my first choice then Stanford then Yale and then Brown...we will see~!

I applied to 4, H Y UPenn MIT. Looks about the same as lubinli.

Caltech, MIT, and 4 others which are matches or safeties.
