So I do know that 1600 applied for the theater program last year (?) and of those applicants 60-75 got into the musical theater program. How many of the 1600 applicants were prospective musical theater minors? Very curious
I don’t know the answer to that, but one important thing to keep in mind is that applicants must be accepted to BA in Theater Studies or BFA in Acting in order to be considered for the MT minor. So it doesn’t really matter how many of the 1600 total applicants auditioned for MT; what REALLY matters is how many of the people who were accepted to the BA and BFA auditioned for MT.
The website says they accept approximate 100 for the BFA and 100 for the BA (which yields a final class size of 20 - 25 in each category). So if you’re accepted into one of those programs, then even if EVERY single accepted BFA Acting and BA Theater student auditioned for MT (which seems highly unlikely), the odds of of getting into MT would be about 35%, which is not bad odds. And in reality, most of the BFA Acting students are NOT MT students, so that increases the odds of getting into MT if you’re accepted into one of the two acting programs.
