How many people are on the waitlist?

I think it could be somwhere close to 1000. But I think it’s a higher chance that it is above 1000 than below.

I agree. … it appears that there might even be more than 2000? SO many people were waitlisted, even on CC.

well, when i called my interviewer, she told me that there are “several hundred” people on the wait list…so that sounds more like under 1000 than over…

I spoke to an admissions officer about the waitlist last week and he said hundreds, maybe thousands, so I’m guessing it’s around 1000-1500.

I would say about 1000, and they may draw much less from the waitlist than they did last year. My guess is about 80-100? compared with 200+ last year.

why would you think that they’re going to take fewer people? i would think think that the unstable economy means that fewer accepted students will be able to take their spots, creating more vacancies…

Harvard has pledged to maintain it’s generous financial aid, as has Princeton. If you read the threads here on FA packages, you’ll see both schools offer much more money to needy students.

Harvard is more certain this year compared with what they did last year, which was the first year without SCEA. So they could draw fewer people from the waitlist. I am not sure about Princeton. Personally I think that they will draw more, much more: they admitted more and have a longer list.

really? and the harvard interviewers … will they know whether the people who they interviewed got in or not? (or were waitlisted?) is it common practice to call up/contact your interviewer after you get admissions results?

attenuation: Yes, they do know. Yes, it is common practice. Mine contacted me first though.

I’m on the waitlist. I don’t really want to go to H, with both Y and P actually being nice to me, but the thing is, it would just be so cool to have all three, you know?

Can your interviewer even make a difference if he’s a very active alumni and thought very positively of you?

Um… What if I didn’t get an opportunity to be interviewed?

Does everyone have interviewers contacting and vouching for them?

i dont think that most ppl have interviewers pressuring the admissions comitee to accept them…i still think the yield is going to get lower…

well, we won’t know until much later. and monkeystar, that’s weird that you didn’t get an interview. i know that H makes a big effort to interview all its applicants…
and this is the interview form

nice attenuation!

I asked the question of “how many on the waitlist” to my son’s admissions officer and the head of admissions at the Information Session. Both said: “Hundreds, and Hundreds, and Hundreds”. I think it is significant that they did NOT say “tens of hundreds” or “Thousands”.

thank you operadad!

attenuation, the link doesn’t work anymore?

any other way to see it?
