I am just doing some research on BW and am fascinated by the amount of information that they post online. The Stages series is great. How many students apply for the MT program, how many audition and how large is the class?

At the 11/15 audition we were told that so far about 400-450 had applied and they are looking for a class of about 18. I don’t recall what they said 400, 425, 450 - but we were told it was about 100 more than had applied same time last year.

During my D’s audition day in November it was mentioned that they expect 1000 to audition this year, based on early numbers. It was also indicated that they will prescreen next year.

According to a recent article about BW (based on an interview with Vicky Bussert), “… 334 trekked to Berea for the 2013-14 school year to land one of 19 spots.” I would be surprised if it will go from 334 last year to 1000 this year.

I agree monkey13 - we were told that they had about 100 more applicants this year than last year - that was in November - surely more could come in, but thinking 600 is a stretch.

I also heard “100 more than last year” at our meeting. I know a few weeks ago 2 audition dates were completely filled, I haven’t checked since my S auditioned.

Two audition dates are full according to their website and one of those was in November. I can’t imagine that they would jump to 1000 and they don’t hold regional auditions or accept video submissions. Next year with a prescreen, I’m sure there will be a huge increase!

I’m just reporting what I heard.

We were at BW auditions over the weekend and they said total number auditioning would be 300-350. Looking for a class in the 15-18 range.

Thanks raellis123! BW is definitely one of my D’s top choices. She’s just a junior, so we will be going through all of this next year!

You’re welcome. It does seem to be a great school/conservatory. We’ve seen 2 shows and both were very good. At the audition this past weekend we (all auditioners & parents) got to sit in on part of a master class where the BW students sang for a NY agent/casting director (don’t remember his exact title). We heard the seniors and a few juniors sing before they sent us to the dance call. Those kids were incredible! BW is putting out a great product in those folks.
