I am a waitlisted international student.
Does anyone know roughly, how many waitlisted people have already got in?
and are all of them americans? if so, does this mean international students are considered seperately??
any personal answers and advice are mostly welcome =)
thx

which country are you from? I don't think that any of the waitlistees who have got in were from outside the US.

I can't imagine our waitlist has US-specific sections.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm not so sure, and take it back.

to maxy: I am a chinese student currently studing in UK.
so if i may ask, how many americans you know that have been accepted from the waiting list?

to bluedevilmike,

well... you might be right, cuz that's just my guessing anyway=)
however, are you a current student at duke?
any ideas about how many waitlisted students will be offered spots to this yr??

thx^^

I am indeed currently a student at Duke, and it looks to me like there's been considerably motion of the waitlist so far. I read someplace else on the boards that Duke had only filled 1450 of its spots, which would indicate that roughly 150 more students (somebody else correct me?) were due to be admitted off the waitlist.

Now, you should remember that Duke waitlists a great number of kids. My freshman year (four years ago), the rumors said that Duke had waitlisted nearly 2000 students. If that rumor is true, then I would expect the waitlist to have grown in the meanwhile, indicating that even if we admitted 150 kids, you would still only have a 7% shot at getting in.

bluedevilmike :
thx for your helpful inform...and thank you for ur calculations as well^^
indeed i know that my chance is infinitely small...and it reli gets smaller as seconds past by...and i read somewhere about this yr's waitlisted number is about 1000 or so... very large number... although, duke doesn't rank, i see many americans getting off the waitlist...
don't know what to do apart from waiting....
just wondering, will the admissions office give phone calls to international students as well?

If I remember correctly, there are 1000 waitlisted applicants for both schools (Trinity and Pratt), so there are 2000 total. Hope that helps.

thx a lot...^^ reli nice to read the replies in such a friendly atomsphere
many thx to those for being friendly and helpful =)
thank you to all!!!

bluedevilmike, because Duke cannot afford to be need-blind to internationals and meet their full need, I think that there are separate waitlist pools for domestics and intels.

fei57, while the waitlist pools are officially unranked, did you notice that all 6 students taken off the waitlist had SAT scores between 2260 and 2320? what were your stats? PM me if you want.

thx for your replies^^
buledevilmike & ashesinthefall27:
where did you read the stat. about waiting list and yield from?
do you know other ways to find out the exact number?
or do you have any ideas how the 1st ppl know the stats. if duke doesnot release them?
thx=)

I did not have SATs score that high... and I was accepted off the waitlist... when they called, they said they appreciated the letter I had sent in telling them about my continued interest.

Allrite, so I visited the international admissions office a couple of days ago (I used to work there) and apparently the international yield is pretty low this year and they will probably take a few people off the waitlist. However, they are still waiting to hear from all the admitted students, so they wont be making decisions about the waitlist for atleast the entire next week.
I would recommend sending them a letter of continued interest ASAP if you havent already done so-telling them that Duke is your top choice and you would absolutely go if admitted .Also, send them an update of any additional stuff that you have done since you sent in your application.

Guys I am also waitlisted at duke... send them my letter of interest and recommendations alongwith an update, that I was recently selected for the IMO 2006 team (only 6 people in the country get selected). Do you think financial aid requirements will matter a lot in the wait list factor? If so, can we tell the admissions office that we can INCREASE our contribution, by say, 10 k... What do you think?

Wolffy 25, what did u write in you letter of interest , if u cud plz tell me a few points which u outlined in your letter... thanks..

Wow IMO 2006 is big. Make sure they know that. International Math Olympiad right? Were you selected after you got waitlisted? If so, you should notify them immediately. You've got a good chance of landing it @ Duke.

Yeah, i got selected after being waitlisted and it is International Math Olympiad. What do you think about the aid for waitlistees??

Duke does offer aid to waitlisted candidates, even international ones.
I would suggest you contact them ASAP to tell them about the IMO.

hey, guys:
Is that true that around 20 US citizens have already got off the waiting list??
Anyone have any ideas about when the intel decision will be released???
if so, is it By email???

ya... i also DESPERATELY wanna know that... and I think that more than 20 US citizens have been taken... around 40-50... at least 15 CC's
