How many people with "good" deferral get in?

Although I won’t label the deferral letters as good and bad anymore, it just seems the letter, signed by Theodore (provost…) is indicating that you are qualified for UM, but they aren’t sure if they should choose you over someone with equal stats. In the other letter, signed by an admission counselor, UM is indicating that they aren’t sure if you qualified for the program you applied for. They want to make sure you are taking courses geared toward that program and are excelling in them as well. I’m sure the majority of us on CC are qualified for UM, it’s the fact that we all applied to different schools that leads us to speculate. Don’t feel terrible if your hopes of getting into UM are slim. Getting into the school of engineering or business is much more difficult than LSA.

I got this one on 11th of dec, but didn’t get accepted yet.
Does umich give this letter to many people?

lol, i think people that got the letter that requires 7th semester grades are getting ****ed that their letter is one that’s being called “bad” as opposed to the letter being called “good.”

The evidence that it is better to have received the letter specifically saying a candidate has been deferred is both inferential and anecdotal. The letter says the applicant is qualified and part of a select group. It is signed by a bigwig. More important to me is that at least two people have posted that this year they have been offered admission after getting the good letter. However I think one’s chosen school and home state matter too.

Miserablecur- I’d have to agree with your assessment that the most important part of the difference in letters is that at least four (from what I know) people have gotten in after being deferred with the “good” letter. I believe that is the biggest distinction between the “good” and “bad” letter. Also with the good letter you are still in the running to get admitted rather than being pulled out of the pool completely. I really wish that the good letter truly produces more admits but from what I can see, that is just a bias by people making their own judgments.
