how many REAers deferred?

Hi.

So I applied early and was deferred. I'm not exactly sure how to take this. People are telling me it's an accomplisment just to be deferred to Stanford, but in reality, there's a very good chance I'll suffer the same fate as those who were rejected- just four months later. Then again, I'm still holding on to my 10% chance, despite the fact that many many qualified candidates will be applying from my school RD.

I'm curious to know how many people get deferred into the regular decision pile. The letter says something along the lines of "you are one of a select few" who get deferred, but how small a number is "few"?

also, I've heard that they defer a lot of legacies so as not to p*ss off the alummus. I am a legacy and am wondering if this is why I was deferred, as opposed to outright rejected. Is there validity in this claim?

I'm sure these questions have appeared in multiple threads so I apologize for duplication. I looked in a number of places but I wasn't about to go through every page of every thread to find the answer. Thanks for the help!

Hi! I’m in your positition- a deferred legacy applicant. At first I felt relieved to be deferred, but then after reading some of the stuff on CC about deferred legacies, started feeling nervous. My guess is that about 500-700 of us were deferred, since I’ve read that in past years Stanford defers about 10% of the SCEA applicant pool, and then after that accepts about 10% of applicants from the deferred pool during the RD period.
