how many recommendations?

When I took a tour of NYU, I was told that just 1 teacher recommendation and 1 recommendation from the guidance counselor should be more than enough. Any more is really unnecesary.

But the general consensus on CC seems to be atleast 2 teacher recs

whats the deal?

bump10char

Only 2? eh?

I got 1 from a supervisor, 1 from my boss, 1 from a proff and 1 from a HS teacher. =s

I'm applying to NYU too.

Well I think they were only stating the requirements maybe unnecesary was the wrong word. But people have told me that you need 2 teacher recommendations so I just wanted to make sure.

NYU only wants two recs, one from your GC and one from a teacher who knows you well and has taught you an academic core subject in the past year. They do not want one from anyone else, and will not look at more than those two. It's best to read the requirements on the app and follow them as closely as possible.

the common app asks for two recs. lots of schools use the common app. that is why people say 2 recs. if a school asks for one, give one. doing otherwize will hurt you.

so whatre they gonna do if i give 3? nothing!

What they will do is not to read all of them. So, if there's a particular teacher whose rec you want NYU to be sure to read, don't send anything extra! Why do you guys make things so difficult? Follow the instructions, and give them what they want. You can be sure that there will be thousands of others who will!

Because they're all amazing and address different parts of my personality at different stages in my life.. lol

give them two. you give one teacher rec and one guidance rec. complicated? not really. they didnt ask for supervisor rec or one from your boss. those two have nothing to do with your schooling at all. and they're not going to waste their time reading how you're such a good worker. do as they say, and you'll be fine
