How many recs is too many?

The schools i want to go to generally require 2 or 3 recs, one being a counselour and then 1 or 2 being a teacher in an academic subject. The only problem is that I KNOW my business class teacher could write me a phenomenal rec. Also, i plan on asking the owner of my hockey rink (who knows me the most and watches me volunteer, play hockey, work, and referee hockey there) to write me one as well. SO, is it too much to send in two EXTRA recs if i think theyll show something that the others wont?!?! or does it look like im just trying too hard or something?!?! Thanks.

I highly doubt you should do that. However, if you're determined, you should at least call the admissions office and feel them out -- whether they would frown upon that.

The reason they have cutoffs is that they don't want to read more. I know for a fact that some MBA programs look critically at applicants who can't follow guidelines like 1500 word maximum essays.

i would pick 3 maximum. someone who knows u academically, out of school, and a counselor.

SO basically i can add in one extra, and that being the one thatll show my hockey passion.

If it isn't someone impressive, like a professor at the college, or they do not know you well, don't bother sending it in. I.E. Owner of hockey rink or your dad's friend who happens to be a senator, but hardly knows you. Don't do it.

colleges are generally looking for 2
