How many Sat II subject tests should I take?

On Yale's website, it says that they require 2 Sat II subject test. So my question is, is it better to be safe and take an extra test to make it 3? Also, are there any recommended Sat II tests that should be taken, or do they place equal weight on all of the tests?

I think there are a few schools that require 3, so you may want to hedge your bets and take 3. Which ones you take depends: if you’re a math/science person, it will look strange if you don’t take at least math.

i think 3 is probably the safest choice and it shouldn’t be a problem (for a prospective yale applicant) if you’re a science/math student.

i’d say three. i end up taking a total of around 6, lol, cause i totally bombed one or two of them…but they look at the top 2 which is what is important! that said, its best to take 3 to be on the safe side.

I believe the only schools that require three SAT IIs are Harvard, Princeton, and Georgetown.

I only took two (World Hist and Math II). I admit, one of the reasons I applied to Yale and not Harvard or Princeton was the appeal of not having to take another one. It also gave me small comfort to know that the Yale admissions could know that I had not applied to H or P, but I doubt they actually consider this while reviewing applications.

Take 3. All of them are valued equally (except maybe Math 1) but take tests in different subject areas. If you aren’t satisfied with your score repertoire on the first go around, take three more (perhaps retaking one but definitely not two). You want to balance flexibility with low stress/ease. Pick the subjects you are best at.
