How many SAT II's to take

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering how many SAT II's i should take. The colleges im hoping to apply for (mid ivies range) all only require 2 SAT II's, but should i take 3/4? Will they care/ make a difference?
I got 800 on both SAT II math and chem and im from Canada (just a little background info)
Will great SAT II marks make up for a slightly lower SAT I mark? (2280 - 780 M, 760 CR, 740 W)

Thanks in advance

Your SAT I is excellent. Not low in by any measure. If you take more SATs and do good on them, they can only help you. But, you don’t need to take them if you don’t want to. Your scores are competitive for all the Ivies. I would focus on the other parts of your app (ECs, grades, essays) but if you think you can do good on other subjects, by all means go for it.

More is not necessarily more. Taking only the required 2 subject tests will not hurt your chances of getting into an Ivy League school…at least it didn’t for me.

I found it best to take 2 I knew I would do well at, as opposed to taking more and risk getting not so great scores. I took US History and Math I–I considered taking Chem but the weird question types completely threw me off (even after having taken AP Chem that year).

Take some diagnostic exams and see how you fare. If you’re scoring 750+ on 3-4 exams, then go for it. But if studying for one exam would make you do worse on another, the opportunity cost is not worth it.

Bottom line–get at least two good scores under your belt. Then re-evaluate where to go from there.

Sorry i havent checked on my own thread but thanks for the replies.

So i guess just do it if i can, but i dont have to is the essential message im getting.

I guess i also agree with that, but should i re-focus on retaking the SAT I instead, or is that not necessary (i can prolly get a 4~ GPA unweighted, and a class rank of 1/300)?

Thanks again in advance

You have taken an SAT in the math and science area. I would recommend also taking one in the English or History area, just to show you are an all rounder.
Your SAT I score is great so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I would, however, concentrate only on the subject tests or trying to raise your SAT I score. Trying to take both would be a burden.
Good luck!

3 .

I completetely agree with you college316. The chemistry SAT is really wierd. Especially if its the first real standardized test you ever take.

Would not recommend chem, curve is quite harsh.

Thanks everyone for the help,

Didnt get a chance to check my own thread as i was on vacation.

But i think i’m ultimately gonna decide to focus on the essays instead of the testings, I hope thats a good choice :S

I’m kinda lazy to restudy for the SAT I, and not sure if i can do well on SAT II writing :(

(ps. Chem seemed ok for me, but maybe it was cause i raged chem my junior year lol)
