How many SATII subject tests?

Well, some colleges say "recommended." But how many should I take?
And for example, If I take 5, do adcoms see all 5 scores or just the 3 highest or something?

Most colleges say that they only will look at your top scores. There's no real reason to doubt what they're saying. I mean, maybe if you're borderline but even then I can't see them looking at all of your scores. That said, I'd be inclined to take the minimum number possible and do very well on those. My situation was slightly different from yours as I live in Switzerland. This meant that I had to learn a large amount that we had not covered yet for the SATIIs. That resulted in each SATII taking a long time to prepare for and had I prepared for more than two I wouldn't have done quite so well. However, even in your situation I'd probably take the minimum number and study really hard for those. You wont get a prize for taking more.

well, i am planning on to take 4 , 2 of which will be counted as 1 (SATII Spanish and Korean) Will that shadow a positive or negative image?

i would take AS many as you can!
what year are you in high school?
to me, the best bet is to take 1-2 tests a year.
that way, you don't necessarily overwork yourself,
but you still have plenty of scores by your senior year,
and have plenty of time to retake tests if you don't do as well as you had hoped.

i have a friend who didn't take very many, and he really regrets it now.

I don't really see the point in that. The SATII subject tests are relatively easy as long as they're studied for. Taking them younger wont boost scores and in the end of the day the colleges will only look at two or three. Just prepare well for the tests you take so you can guaranty yourself a good score. It's so much less stressful. (also try to take the tests at separate dates so that it's only necessary to take one per sitting.)

i don't know.
it just seemed sensible to me, i don't like waiting until the last minute. this leaves much more room for the unpredictable.
plus, especially if kevster1001 is taking AP or Honors courses, its a wise decision to take the SAT II subject test immediately following completion of that course (which means taking some tests freshmen and sophomore year)

for the SATII tests, can adcoms see how many times you took for a test, like the SATIs? Or do you just send your best 3/4 ones?

Any SAT score report from the CB shows every SAT I and SAT II that you have ever taken and has been graded. There used to be something call "score choice" but CB dropped it a few years ago. The colleges can see the scores but they will pull out the ones that are best and put them on your app.

So basically, if I take SATII spanish 3 times, adcoms know i have taken it 3 or so times. Now, don't you think that taking it several times will cast a negative image for someone, despite the good grades. For ex: if i went 680-750-780 that's acceptable, whereas a 780-780-790 shows i am too concerned about grades and want nearly perfect grades and therefore cast a bad image?
