How many SAT's is too many?

Hey I just got my March SAT's back and it was my second time taking it.
My scores were:
October: 750M; 700CR; 720W; 2170 total
March: 800M; 740CR; 650W; 2190 total
My Superscore is now 2260.

I want to major in engineering so I'm really happy with the math but my most recent writing section was just plain awful. Is it worth taking the SAT a 3rd time in the fall to try to get a score in the 2200s, or will taking it three times make me look desperate and hurt me more than it helps?

Also, I haven't done a lot of research on how colleges take the SAT scores. Do most colleges just take your best test or is it common for a college to take your superscore? And how many colleges even look at the writing section?

Thanks in advance!

I’m in pretty much the same boat as you, my CR and M are solid and my writing is just not so hot

From what I hear 2 is typical, 3 is acceptable, though not ideal, and anything more than that is just excessive.

I only had to take it once! Yippee!

First, i’d like to say that the 70 top institutions look at writing. I’m assuming most of the schools you are applying for care about the writing score. Most colleges, i believe, look at best sitting. Because you want to major in engineering, it’s not as bad for colleges that you did bad in writing, but, if you can get over 2200s, it might be an option to consider. As long as you take it less than four times, it should be not the best, but fine. Depends to what schools you want to apply though.

i probably would not take it more than 4 times, at that point it just seems a bit desperate lol
