How many scholarships did you apply for

and how many did you win?

applied for 19 (mostly local)

won 5 (all local) =)

son applied for over 20 and won seven..five local, one state, and one national.

applied to 5 or 4

won 2 and 1 award

My son applied to over 50 and so far has won 9 scholarships and 3 awards. There are some we are still waiting on.

applied for a bunch on all levels, some small but it all adds up....won 13 so far!

it would have been helpful to also ask how much money was won from each scholarship if thats not to personal

D applied for 40 outside scholarships. Has won 7 (one national, one state), and 5 locals. Has heard "no" from 10, and still waiting to hear from the last
23. So far, she is up to $7200 for next year, and $2500 per year for the next three years renewable. We are really happy - LOL!

Mine range from $250 - $2000, totaling about $13,000

As for amounts:

S has won-
Mercedes-Benz 2,500 renewable- $10,000
Lions Club- $1,000
Local Methodist Church- $1,000
American Legion Auxiliary- $300
Wal-Mart- $1,000
Electric Company- $500
MSPE- $3,000
The other scholarships that he is receiving were automatic (merit and bright flight...those total $31,000)

I don't know how many she applied for, but a girl at my school totalled $254,000 in financial aid. She is obviously a genius and is attending Brown next year on a full ride.

Including the one from my college, I got six scholarships totalling $110,000.

Zerooooooo

Received:
Fed. Water Quality Association - $1500
Izaak Walton League (local) - $1500
Masonic Charities (MD) - $1000
Lions Club (local) - $2000 ($500 per year)
UMD College Park School of Engineering - $12,000 ($3000 per year)
UMD - $20,000 ($5000 a year)

So $38,000 total accepted. (I'm in-state in MD.) Waiting on a few more though. :)

i will be applying for 15 college scholarships all are full tuition/full ride merit.... and 2 national, and probably 5 local

a full ride for brown???? that means she is of financial need, not necesarily a genius..... ppl over use the word... to be genius u have to discover/invent something really really unprecendent, big, and it must change the world, otherwise you are just "bright", "gifted", "smart" etc...

Sorry for asking such a stupid question, but where did you guys find all these scholarships? Do you look online? Do they usually require essays and letters of rec?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Just got another $1000 from the local Rotary Club. The one that she received last night at a dinner is renewable if the student reapplies and maintains a 3.0 GPA (which is what she has to get to keep her Merit Scholarship).

Also, to ab_med: We found the scholarships from a variety of sources - Fast Web and doing searches of major companies (such as Best Buy, Lowes, KFC, etc), but the ones that she has been most successful are the local ones from the civic organizations in our hometown. She visited her Guidance Office at least once a week to check the bulletin boards, I was a regular at the Guidance Office in the school I teach at, and we also found many by checking out the websites of another area high schools as well. Most schools now maintain their websites and have a seperate page for Senior News/Scholarships. Very time consuming, but it is paying off! Good Luck to you in your search.

ab_med--Check out my post on this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=351436

Those are a few ways to get started on your scholarship search. Most competitive scholarships require essays and letters of rec. That's your greatest opportunity to show the judges why you deserve the scholarship and for them to see you aside from your academic records.

If you're still having trouble, send me a PM. I'd be glad to help.
