How many school should I apply to?

I'm a sophomore in high school and thinking of my future. I plan on going to LSU, but just in case that doesn't work out I'd like to have some back up schools. My GPA is 3.7 I haven't taken the ACT yet but will take it in September. I have decided on University of Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, and ULM. I don't know if I should go for any more, or even which ones to go for. I want to stay in Louisiana. Thanks in advance for any help :) Cheers!

It is early to worry about college applications. One thing you can do now is to find out the process for LSU. Many state flagships have some form of rolling admission where you will hear back early if you apply early. If that is the case, you may only need to apply to your top few schools first and then see what happens. You can look at a college guide book (Ex. Barrons/Princeton Review - they may even be at your local library or in the guidance area of your HS) to research other schools in your state. For now concentrate on keeping up your strong grades and doing your best on the ACT.
