How many schools are you applying to?

I always thought 10 was a crazy high number but it turns out that's what I'm trying to narrow my list (of 14) down to. They all just have such different things to offer, and I feel kind of silly applying to so many schools but I feel like I would be happy at all these schools and I want to have a good amount of offers to compare in April, so I think it's reasonable.

Seniors, how many schools are you planning on applying to?

I want to apply to at least five; they will probably be in-state, but I’m aiming to get out of the general area, like to FSU or something. I want to gradually get myself out of Florida.

8; would just apply to 3-4, but options are good, right?

Planning on 12, but I’m just a junior, anything could change… I know the thread isn’t about what schools, but here’s my projected list.

Reach:
Brown
University of Chicago
WUSTL
Georgetown
Emory (ED)

Match/target:
Brandeis (EA)
American
Tulane (EA)
Northeastern (EA)
Shimer College

Safety:
University of Georgia (EA)
Hofstra

Right now I have 12, but that’ll change depending on where I get in EA. 4 research universities, 4 LACs, 2 safeties, one super-reach and one “doing it to please my parents” school.

I’m applying to 5.
Kalamazoo College - safety
University of Michigan - target
NYU - target
Georgetown - reach
Columbia - reach

Current list has 10 (maybe 11, undecided on one). 6 reaches, 3 matches, 1 safety. I’m going to find another safety or so. My original plan was to limit my list at 10, but I need to get in and get enough money, so I want to minimize the odds of having to defer to a safety.

20 haha, not even joking

^ that’s f&cked

2 safeties 2 strong matches 2 low reaches 2 high reaches

UW
MIT
Caltech
Columbia
Harvard
Stanford
I think that’s it?

I need to have choices and they are all so different! That is if I dont apply early
But I have 3 reaches, not impossible ones
3 targets, 3 low targets, and 2 safeties

7, maybe 8. Debating on whether or not to apply to Gtech…

2 safeties, 2 matches, 2 medium reaches, 1 high reach.

Almost done with my UGA EA application, thank gods…

11.

1 reach, 2 high matches, 2 matches, and 6 safeties.

Although 6 of these don’t have supplements.

5 safety/matches
10 matches/reaches

Looking closer to 15 or 20 xD
Gotta work on trimming it down to around 10.

finally got my 10! 4 reaches (2 high reaches, 2 low reaches), 2 matches, and 4 safeties

I am applying to 12 schools. I hovered around 8 for a while, with a few I was looking at adding then I just ended up adding them all. I have 3 safeties (UC Davis, University of Puget Sound, and UNR), 2 matches (Reed, University of Rochester), and 4 reaches (Swarthmore, University of Chicago, Bowdoin, Wesleyan) and 3 double reaches (Yale, Dartmouth, Brown) since very few people ever get into these Ivy League schools. I know I have a lot of reaches, but I think I have a good shot at them though. GOOD LUCK with all of your schools.

I don’t see how you can only apply to only 6 schools if you are a top student, and are applying to Ivies and “almost” Ivies.

You need a safety, you need some matches and you need some reaches.

I would say MANY reaches.

I say this because given the extremely low acceptance rates at the top “reach” schools, almost no one can presume that they will be accepted, no matter how impressive their record. With acceptance rates at from 7%-20%, I think you have no choice but to apply to a lot of them.

If you only apply to 3 or 4 of the top schools, you could easily rejected at all of them.

^^true, but would I rather not get into any of my 7-8 schools, or end up being only accepted at that 9th school that I don’t like? :o
