I AM THINKING LIKE 14... I know it's too many.. But is there any limits on the numbers of schools?

Also I am worreid that my counslor will be ****ed if I apply too many.....:) But the teachers don't have to write a letter for each school right??? lol

There's no limit. I'm applying 10-12 schools. I realize that it's a bit much but FOR ME, there isn't one school on that list that I wouldn't be happy going to (although I'd be happier at some more than others) so I can't narrow it more.

Yeah, no limit. Teachers would typically write/type one and either make photocopies or print multiple copies - they're not gonna sit and handwrite so many recs... especially for all the students.
And as much as it's nice to consider your counselor's comfort level, if you feel that you want/need to apply to 14 schools, apply to 14 schools. It's your future we're talking about - not your counselor's.

I am applying to 12. I love them all, would love to attend any of them, and am also quite confident that I will only be accepted to ~6 (if I am lucky... I'm applying to HPY!). Also, I need some decent FA from the school I choose. So, I figured a little extra work and $ now was worth it if it would give me more options and save $ in April. Luckily, my parents agreed.

No, there is no limit. My counselors told me 3-5 schools, but I just laughed.

I am applying to 14 as well. However, two of them are huge huge reaches for me. But nevertheless it still adds up to 14. Apply to all the colleges you want, its your future and it can't hurt to have some options! :P

Just remember that at some point there will be a point of diminishing return. In other words, you'll be stretched so thin with all of the extra work that you might not do as good a job on the various essays that you would be capable of if you were applying to a smaller number of schools. While the common app makes the process a little more streamlined, many schools have supplemental applications with essays and some require separate scholarship essays, and it's a lot of work to keep track of the varying deadlines, requirements. etc.

I have 13 .. and im applied everywhere and my counselor was more than happy to do it all for me .. but then again i really only applied to so many because i had fee waivers .
