Did you think it was too many? too little?

There are probably threads like this elsewhere, but since 2011 was ~the most competitive college app year, thus far, I feel like people's numbers will be inflated.

Also, I vaguely remember some CC girl who applied to like 20 colleges and got into like 90% of them. Top tier colleges too, mind you. Am I making this up? Is she just a CC myth?

It was WAY too many, but I was/am very indecisive and was unable to narrow it down by anything other than arbitrary criteria. Especially considering I’ve been pretty successful so far, I wish I’d applied to fewer safeties/matches–but hindsight is 20/20, and I couldn’t have known how well I’d do at the time I was applying.

I applied to 8, including two Ivies and two other top-20’s. I think that was too many: of these eight, I’m only really considering three.

And there was a girl last year who applied REA to Stanford and got rejected, so in her post-rejection panic applied to thirty-two other schools, which all accepted her.

I applied to 8…and I wish I hadn’t. I’d only consider going to 3 of them, the others are safeties / dream schools. I wish my parents were more willing to let me visit different colleges so I could have had solid backup plans since I was initially deferred from my #1… but oh well, I’ve been waiting YEARS to go to UMich, and now it’s only a couple of months away :)

I applied to 9, got into 6, and waiting on 3…wishing I didn’t apply to a couple of them and saved the money, but oh well. Everyone at my school is between 6-10 minus a few exceptions

Some kid last year applied to 24 and got denied to 23, and waitlisted to 1…so sad.

I applied to 11… that’s a lot compared to most people I know, but I really don’t think that’s too many. I do, however, regret that I applied to too many reaches and not enough matches and safeties.

I applied to 17. This is alot more than people at my school, but most were top top schools so I took a gamble. Im pretty successful so far (3/3 acceptances)

I was talking to some people who graduated high school in the early 2000’s, and they applied to ~6 schools. I’m talking Harvard, MIT, Caltech etc. That’s crazy. I can’t imagine only applying to so few schools.

When I tell people this, their faces are shocked. They think that’s a lot? … They should visit CC.

Anyway, I feel like I applied to too little Now that I have a rejection on my shoulders, I’m harboring even more rejections in the future …

2 acceptances (one of which I couldn’t even get accepted into the program I wanted because it was FULL! Ugghhh, what a dealbreaker)
1 Rejection (#1 school!)
3 more waiting to here …

My son applied to 6. 1 Ivy league, 4 very-extremely competitive schools and a safety. He was accepted to the safety but really doesn’t want to go there. We’re hoping that 6 was enough.

I applied to nine, two of which were safeties; the rest were top 20 schools. Took a huge risk, but I just got into UChicago yesterday so I can breathe now. Before yesterday though I was wishing that I had applied to some matches. Definitely wouldn’t advise future applicants to do what I did.

I applied to 7. One, the university in my hometown, is a financial safety. Four of the other schools because I wanted to see if they would offer me good financial aid, plus they had free or inexpensive apps. I did consider their offers but now am down to my original #1 choice, CU-Boulder (accepted) and Cornell (yet to hear).

i applied to one, was accepted with a full ride and status as a sophomore because of my credits and an automatic spot in the Honors college. so. i’m awesome!
