I applied to around 20. I know a lot of QuestBridge scholars applied to upwards of 25, some even 30 - 40.

Today I spoke to someone who said her QB friend applied to 40 and counting. That is crazy.

If you join the Facebook QB groups you’ll see that most people applied to 5 - 15 schools. Although, yes, there’s the outliers who applied to 40+. I applied to 13 myself. Accepted so far to one and expecting to hear from one more before the March - April time.

Luck!

Ha! I planned on applying to 10 originally, but I ended up thinking it was a bit silly to spread my application out so much and only applied to the two that I genuinely wanted to attend: Colorado College (EDII) and University of Virginia. Outside of QuestBridge, I applied to Reed College, Occidental College and a state school. I’ll probably attend the (practically free, Tier 1) state school if I can’t get enough aid at the others.

I am one of those outliers, I applied to 43 schools.

With application fees of around $50 each, I wonder how QB applicants can afford to apply to so many schools, especially considering the cost of the application and sending scores, etc, much less getting recommendations from teachers… for 43 schools? WOW.

@crazymomster it actually isn’t bad. I was a QB finalist so I automatically had fee waivers to all of the QB schools, I qualified for the CA waiver which allowed me to apply to up to 20 more at not cost and my safeties waived my application fee because I had high stats. I also didn’t have to pay anything to send test scores because my counselor can send my scores with my transcript and schools are fairly lenient about where you test scores come from when you are involved with QB. Overall I spent around $500, all of which went to sending CSS profiles and art supplements, it is more than I would have liked to spend but I worked a job over the summer so I had saved some money to cover the expenses.

Oh wow, you were lucky. I didn’t know that CA granted such a waiver… that is helpful :-)

Good luck with your upcoming decisions :-)

I applied to ten, four of which are UCs sooo thankfully less paperwork.

I’m dreading the CSS profiles I have left to submit + the copies of tax forms I still have to mail…all this effort to ultimately end at one school. sigh

@artsygirl13 Whaaat, I didn’t know they took the scores on our transcripts. D: I had to pay for extra test scores cause I used all my Collegeboard freebies, some on schools I thought I’d apply to but didn’t. -.- Lol

Good luck guys :)

Dude, CollegeBoard will suck you completely dry. It’s a nasty, scummy organization when it comes down to it. I’m glad that I’ve qualified for their fee waivers. If my family were only slightly richer (and I mean like +$10K in annual income), applying to college would have been an utter nightmare between transcripts, SAT, CSS and general app fees. All I’ve had to pay for is the CSS and to send my SATs to a few colleges (cause my idiot butt ended up sending my fee waived ones to schools I didn’t even end up applying to -_-).

36 colleges total (including 4 UC schools) thanks to QuestBridge and the 8 fee waivers that CollegeBoard sent me.
