How many schools did you apply to?

I have a friend who just graduated from high school this spring 2009, and applied to 21 different universities. He eventually came down to Stanford vs Penn and chose Stanford, after visiting both universities.

I personally think that is an absurd amount of universities to apply to, but he thought differently.

So, how many did you all apply to yourself?

I applied to 11.

Forgot to add that I applied to 6.

Looking to apply to around 8 colleges.

I’ll probably aim for 6, so it’d be 2 match/reach/safety
My brother and sister both applied to 4 I think

I applied to 5.

Applied to 12 originally, then once they all came back rejections (even safeties) and my counselor realized that I didn’t take two years of the SAME language. I applied to 2 more and 4 prep schools for a PG year.

As a transfer I applied to 5

I ended up getting in early but if I hadn’t I would have applied to 10-12.

I applied to 3 schools out of high school.

7 schools for moi

Only the zillionth thread on this… T_T

6 is the magic number. 2 safety (well, one is just a really, really low match for me), two matches, and two reaches. My combination is looking more like safety/really low match/low match/match/low reach/reach.

I applied to 5:
1 reach
2 matches
and 2 backups

Being from Virginia kind of makes it easier to submit less applications for top students as there are two perfect and diverse matches in-state.

Fiona. A better approach to new people on this forum is to teach them how to use it.

Sezon. It’s obviously a great question because it has been asked before. Many people however will just be seeing it for the first time.

If you are new you can adjust your search options to see very old threads which can be very helpful. Heres how: SIgn in. Click on My Control Panel (top left in blue ribbon), click on edit options, go to thread display options and click on default thread age cut off. Now choose show all threads.

My son applied to 12 as we were looking for the best merit aid vs. reputation. I am glad he applied to all.

I’ll probably apply to 8-10

As an addition, the more I look at schools with top financial aid programs, the more I’m considering adding a seventh school (Stanford).

I planned on 6 but added a 7th in the last couple weeks.
