How many schools did you apply to?

I was watching the "squee" thread and looking at the number of schools represented in the "waiting to hear" portions of postings. We had an original list of 8, and when early acceptance came to #3 with merit aid on the list, we didn't spend the time and money to apply to the rest. I was just wondering how many schools people applied to.

Six. I applied for film.

Accepted:
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Rejected:
UCLA

Waiting on:
USC
Carnegie Mellon
Northwestern
NYU

DreamUD–hey! great about UWMadison. My S was accepted there too for art and I did grad school there. Love Madison. so nice to hear that someone else artsy wants to go there.

Actually, since it is son’s list I wont put them all out here but you can probably figure it out from earlier postings.
He applied to 9. He is in at 6 and so far has not suffered the pain of rejection (that will probably be addressed in the next few weeks and as I tell him, will make the whole senior year experience complete).
I actually regret so many apps and so many types of schools but in October/November it was impossible to know that he would be so fortunate to be accepted at so many schools. Now it is unclear where to send housing deposit, apply for honors, or more scholarships. he is soooo burned out on the whole paperwork and portfolio thing.

There are some open houses for the OOS schools in the area in the next week–reception type things. Perhaps seeing the other accepted kids will help him eliminate choices or give him a sense of where he may want to visit in April for schools he hasn’t seen yet.

D1 applied to 7, D2 applied to 13! You don’t realize how exhausting it all is until you’re in the thick of it! And even with online apps, I was in the Post Office every week.

i applied to two art schools (cooper/saic) and a state school (uf) as a backup

what happened to your original list? couldn’t make SAT IIs? bombed? family money?
you don’t have to asnswer if you don’t want to.

wow Valtergeorge…UF as a backup/safety. I understand it is really tough to get in UF. I attended briefly but just some general undergrad stuff when money got tight at a top20. I had some of the best classes even in those mega-survey classes. Intro econ taught by a premier economist–actually my section was 50 kids watching the video of the professor’s lecture taped the day before. It was still a good course! don’t laugh, really! I didn’t appreciate it until later. Gainesville is really big now, but I think one thing holds true for UF…top notch professors and facilities in every field and I am sure art is the same way.

i had a change of heart and decided against liberal arts schools, and i applied EA to chicago (which was my second choice anyways) with enough to go, so i didn’t have a need to apply anywhere else

and as far as UF being a backup, im a national merit finalist so i am guaranteed admission

plus i applied through the school of art, making it a little easier

you and famkid, pick either brain or art, save room for either one for us unfortunate rest.

Accepted:
UCI
UCSD

Rejected:
UCLA

Waiting:
Yale
Brown
Reed
UCB
Stanford

Haha…I think I got rejected from ucla becuase my portfolio…I’m the validictorian of my class and a 29 ACT (Which isn’t great)

SageMIomo,

I like the Arts program at UC Irvine a lot. Good school and a beautiful new arts building and good professors. Oh yeah and upper classmen live in Newport Beach. Life is good!

From an art perspective I think that UCI, UCR and UCLA are headed in the right direction.

Best,
Wheaty

wait, isn’t your kid just got in mighty UCLA that this kid above was rejected and obviously wanted to go?
that’s sort of cruel to wish “Best”, like, would you trade places for nice beachside dorm for your kid?
I am saying this since my kid won’t even qualify UCs, accepted any of them is accomplishment, wish you the best-est.
I hear transferring between is easier than freshman, is that right?
And there’s always grad school, THE mightiest !

Hi Bears and dogs,

Yes my daughter was accepted to UCLA - Arts and my wife and I are thrilled for her, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t still like other programs. It also doesn’t disqualify me from encouraging others from pursuing other art schools.

I happen to think UC Irvine’s art program is wonderful and I responded when I saw that one on SageMIomo’s list. I’m not sure how any of that could be considered cruel. :/

I normally close with ‘Best’ because I mean best wishes to all of these kids. It’s a difficult and stressful time but at the same time it’s also wonderful and I hope the best for them all.

Sorry that you took my earlier post that way as it’s not at all what I intended.

Er, Best,
Wheaty

I know that you are one of those nice dad always talked to your kid while choosing tomatoes or peppers and it all payed off.
Yet, would you think, if there was one spot left and chances are your kid was tad better and took this kid above who was next in line’s spot?
I had rough life and can’t help thinking about that irony and feel that pain. ouch ouch

Applied : SAIC Rejected

My S applied to:

2 state schools (in)
5 Private Art Schools (in at 3 of them/2 waiting)
2 Private Universities (1 in/1 waiting)

In the end I think it was unnecessary to apply to 2 of the private art schools that he didn’t show too much interest in. It was Mom chasing after merit aid. I feel I fell for some marketing hype.

B&D - Give Wheaty a break. He didn’t mean anything by his signature “Best”. It’s an English thing.

awbacon: call, fuss, go out there and give 'em h**l. But makes you wonder, if they treat professional, well-qualified people that way, how are they going to treat a kid who doesn’t know when they need to stand up and fight for themselves?

I did call, and did inquire. A mistake due to no part of my own (didn’t send SAT scores because I was told my the admissions dept not to, since I have been out of school for 7 years) put me into the “did not meet minimum academic qualifications” bracket

My app is now going to re-review, so I am officially “unrejected” and now back in the “waiting for a decision” category

Phew…stressful or what? haha

and Redbug…I agree. My background outside of art was one of high stress situations where it was my job to make sure everything ran smoothly (Team Manager for a large sports team in winter sports)

So my background set me up nicely to “win them over” to my cause of a re-review. If I was 18 and still in HS, I wouldn’t be able to stammer through a poorly worded “please please please let me in” if I rehearsed for a week
