How many schools is too many to apply to?

I am currently planning on applying to 9 schools, one of which does not have any application fee. Would my essay's consequently suffer from applying to 9 schools? I feel like it shouldn't go above 8, but I do have good reasons for applying to each and every one. More importantly, I could see myself at each one. My list is:

Dartmouth
Duke
Vanderbilt
Colgate
Lehigh
Bucknell
Tulane
Rutgers New Brunswick
University of Vermont

9 is fine.

Think of the number as a big bubble- only when it pops are you in trouble.

Adding a college doubtless makes it expand- it’s only too much when you can’t meet demand.

Ask yourself, OP, can you manage all this- your list is great but it could take all your bliss

when come December you find yourself in a hurry; “I won’t get this done in time,” you begin to worry.

Apply everywhere if you think you’ll belong: if you’ve got all the time you can do no wrong.

Considering what you’re aiming for, that seems pretty reasonable. Depending on test scores, GPA, ECs, etc., of course, as well as affordability.

9 is reasonable!
