How many schools should I apply

Hi I'm currently a junior in CA...
I'm thinking about my college majors and college admissisions..
How many schools did you current college students applied???
My reach school's Stanford, Caltech, and Ivies, MIT..
Match schools are UCLA UCB and USC right now...
I'm planning to major in either math/astronomy/aerospace engineering/EE/CE/Finance
HOw many schools and which schools should I look for?? (Especially IVIES)
Can you guys recommend some colleges (about 10 I guess??)

I’m a senior who just finished selecting a college to attend. Personally, I applied to more than 20 schools, but my case is very rare, and I strongly discourage you to do what I did.

However, the “ideal” method of applying is the 2/5/5 method, which is common in my school. You apply to 2 safety schools, 5 match schools and 5 reach schools. That makes about 12 schools in total, which is totally fair.

I would say applying to 8~15 colleges is a fair range.

I have noticed that kids who are looking for great financial aid packages tend to apply to a higher number of schools. If you are not looking for aid then I think 2 safeties, 2 matches and 2 reaches is a good formula. Don’t forget to factor in the cost of the app fees, the fees for sending test scores and the time/cost of visits because this can really add up.

All of them.

I’ve applied to only 4 in-state schools because I knew I can’t afford going OOS
