How many schools?

How many grad schools should you apply to? Or what's a good range? 3-5? 5-7? More? I've been looking (I'm a junior) and only about 3 schools have really caught my eye, and for only one of them am I like, "Man, I would LOVE it there!" Should I apply to some of the other schools I've looked at even if they don't REALLY really interest me? I know it's good to have a backup plan and all, but the whole grad school process thing still confuses me, so I thought I'd ask here since yall are the experts and everything.

How many schools you should apply to usually depends on your credentials. Your professors would be better able to answer your question than anyone on this board would. Ask them where they think you should apply to, and how many schools you should apply to. (Since they're the ones writing the recommendation letters they have an incentive to lead you to graduate programs you would actually be able to get into). If you have exceptionally qualified you may only need to apply to a few schools, but it is your professors who can answer that.
