What about the non-science/math kids?

How advanced do they usually get (multivariable calc, group theory, topology, linear algebra, advanced statistics and probability)? And at what grade?

taking it this year (11th) got 2 pts off a 4 on a practice test two week weeks ago. and it was form b and i did so bad in the class....i really dropped the ball with academics for a time but i still managed that.

AP Calc BC in 10th.

I'd wager most students go
Algebra I -> Geometry -> Algebra II -> Precalc

And most "smart" students go
Geometry -> Algebra II -> Precalc -> Calc

So probably not that many.

Bump? Thanks.

At my school, quite a few people do. I'm only a sophomore currently, but I'm taking Honors Precalculus and I have a 100% in the class, which makes me regret not teaching myself precalc over the summer. In 11th grade I plan to take AP Calculus BC and AP Stat, and in 12th grade, Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations.

There's one crazy smart sophomore in my Calculus AB class. It's sad; I have to ask him for help...

-The Sad Coot66

4 sophomores in cal ab this year (including me)
maybe 15 or so juniors in cal ab
about 7 juniors in cal bc this year
so a fair amount I guess.

im a freshmen in precalc going to AP calc AB next year. there are about i wanna say 95 sophomore calc students very little junior students (they take IB calc) and lots of seniors....my school is just crazy when it comes to math so ya. our school doesn't offer AP calc BC but most sophomore who will be in calc AB next year will also take AP stats.

My school has block scheduling, so there are about 40 sophomores who will take AB and BC in their junior year. There are about 4 or 5 students who will take AB and BC in their sophomore year. And there are a few of students who follow some random math sequence and end up taking Calculus at some random time. :D There are a few students who take Calculus much earlier.

not many. heck, most people don't take calc in high school EVER, so...

don't use CC as a reference for this...everyone here is crazy smart/advanced, so of course they would have taken it early...

A lot of sixth graders take BC calc...

In a school of a combined 520ish juniors and seniors, there are about 22? in our only class of Calc BC. We HAVE to take Calc AB before BC, so I'd say there are about 25 sophomores/juniors in Calc AB every year.

a majority of the people at my school (its private college prep)
go algebra 1 --> geometry --> algebra 2 ---> precal/trig

its perfectly fine though 'cause at least 3 of those kids got into berkeley this year for the class of '11

i went geometry --> algebra 2 (currently enrolled in) ---> precal/trig ---> [HOPEFULLY] ap calculus ab, and i may double up with ap stats

but my best friend's going
algebra 2 --> precal/trig --> ap calculas ap --> our school has this program where we go to the nearest state university and take a college level math course

in the US the average is algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre calc
my school- the average course is geo, alg 2, precalc, calc BC or AB
Some kids take alg 2 in freshman year

I misunderstood the question. There was a guy who took AP Calc in Junior year but dropped it and is taking this year. I'm the only sophomore and non-senior in my AP calc class of the academy.

Most of the people take geom and adval2 in 9th, then pre-calc in 10th. Or, alg1 and geom in 9th, adval2 in 10th and pre-calc in 11th.

im in ap calculus ab (11th)
my trend: alg 2 --> precalc --> ap calculus ab --> ap calculus bc

I took it sophmore year.

My school stupidly requires ALL STUDENTS to take AP Calculus in their junior year which I feel very much useless. I'm taking the class as the school requires but feels wasting my time A LOT. I asked the teacher why AP Calculus in junior year should be required then the reply was that calculus is the basic study of all, which I don't believe it should be done in junior year. I rather want to spend the time on studying humanities which I like and want to major in.

I read a statistic in a book called "The Conspiracy of Ignorance" that said only 20% of high school kids take either trigonometry or physics...

But of course, that was from the 90's, so it's probably gone up by now.
