How many supplements are allowed?

Could I submit 3 types of art supplements? Would that be too many?

Yes, that would be 2 art supplements too many. You are supposed to combine all your art (oil paintings, sculpture, tempura, mosaic, etc) and submit one supplement, or you can create a website that displays all your art and submit a link to your website on the Common Application.

Sorry, I meant fine arts supplements–so I would submit music, dance, and paintings. Is that too many?

You should probably rethink your approach. Many applicants submitting a supplement in art, music or dance are EXTREMELY skilled at their craft. The portfolios they are submitting to HYPS are also being submitted to conservatory schools such as Juilliard, Curtis, Oberlin, RISD, NYC Ballet, etc. That is the level of competition you will be experiencing at a school like Harvard if you submit an arts supplement. Are you at a conservatory level in all three areas – music, dance and art?

FWIW: When you submit something extra to a college like a music supplement, your supplement then gets compared to all other student’s who have submitted a like-portfolio.There are high school students who apply to Harvard that have played at Carnegie Hall or the San Francisco Philharmonic. Is that you? Are you that talented in all three areas? Submitting an arts supplement that is not at a conservancy level often backfires, as it detracts from your overall file. Student’s that are heavily involved in the arts but not at a conservancy level should write an essay about their involvement rather than submit a portfolio, or three portfolios.
