swimcatsmom - so true - the only time in life to celebrate making less money is when filing for FA! For us, one of the few happy aspects of the recession. I knew I didn’t have any money, so seeing the lower figure come up at corrections time only made me smile, it’s important to find joy in the little things.

upstatemom: I meant that he gave me a ballpark figure yesterday, but now he’s checking our records and adding up checking/savings/CDs, so he can give me the accurate to-the-dollar number today. (Have not submitted FAFSA yet, so I assume it’s still OK to correct numbers…?)

“so true - the only time in life to celebrate making less money is when filing for FA!”

LOL! We have been seriously considering early retirement (I’m almost 60). DH and I were saying last night that FAFSA makes retirement look even more attractive. Hard to beat “zero income = zero ECF”!

swimcatsmom, thanks for the SEORG explanation!

Whew! FAFSA has already verified SS numbers, so I guess we’re OK that far, at least.

I’m sorry for all the questions but where exactly will I be making the corrections for the previous 10 colleges that I submitted to correct my mom’s SS#?

When you log onto the 11-12 FAFSA, first choose “View My FAFSA” (or words to that effect) — look at it — does it have just two schools listed? It probably will. I am going to assume that it does. You are going to need to carefully track your transaction numbers. #1 is your first FAFSA, the one with 10 schools. #2 is the one with 2 schools. If you simply clicked “submit” instead of inputting a transaction number, you updated #2. That is why I am assuming that you will see this one (the one with two schools & mom’s correct SSN) when you view your most recent FAFSA — if you do not, let me know.

So #3 is now the most recent #2; #3 is the corrections to #2. That is, your 2 schools are on #3 with the correct mom-SSN.

Now you need to go in to the first FAFSA & update. Go back to the 11-12 FAFSA page & choose “Make Corrections to My FAFSA.” There will be a question asking you if your financial aid administrator has given you a transaction number … put “1.” When you update that with your mom’s correct SSN, that will be #4.

So now you should have your changes saved on #3 (2 schools) and #4 (10 schools). Those will be the transactions you edit when you have to make changes again.

This is why I suggest doing all updates at once, unless the FAFSA has rejected.

I already submit twice, but I still make mistake. I want to correction again, but they only show me view correction? How many time I can submit and make correction?
You can submit corrections at least 10 times, perhaps more. You just have to wait for the most recent correction to be processed.
