i took the SAT three times already and i'm still not very satisfied with the score and will be taking it one more time. my real question is, will colleges (UCs to be more specific) count against me if i take it too many times? is taking it four times too many?

side questions for clarity (since i don't want to start a new thread):

UCs only require two SAT IIs right? and they don't take any letter of recommendations? they don't offer interviews either do they?

yea i took it 3 times.. everyone i spoke to included my college counselor said 4 times is a bit too many.. unless u really feel u can make a significant difference in your score.

it's not like i stayed there in the same old score for the last three SATs. i went from a 1400, to a 1600, to a 1800. and i'm thinking with just a little more practice this summer, i can get it up to a 2000. i'm not exactly confident about it though but i have nothing to lose right? just that 50 dollars to take the test.

4 times for me. It is just NOT TRUE that colleges don's want you to take it more tan 3 times. This myth has been dispelled over and over by adcoms at prestigious institutions. If you think you can improve, take the test as many times as you like.

I took it three times (old SAT once; new SAT twice), and I also took the ACT three times. Like you, my scores improved every time I took them.

Given my past experience with taking the ACT that third time (could have just as easily been the SAT...I just like the ACT format better), I definitely encourage you to give it one more shot.

I took the SAT four times; once each in 7-9th grades (old SAT), and once in my junior year (new SAT). The first three were really crappy, in the 1100-1300 range, 'cause I really wasn't old enough. My last SAT score was high enough so that I'm not planning on taking the ACT. One more test is the last thing I need.

I took the SAT 4 times (1 old, 3 new) and I took 4 different Sat 2's. But usually for the UC's you do not need teacher recs. HOWEVER, Berkeley asked me for a teacher rec when I had to do the supplement form.
