My school is offering a FREE ACT in April and requires all juniors to take it. However, it does not include the writing portion and I need ACT w/ writing results for UC schools. My mom told me to just take the free ACT as practice and then take it again with writing in a few months. Should I do this, or talk to my counselor about opting out of this test option and register for the one with writing in it? I really don't want to take the ACTs twice (HATE. STANDARDIZED. TESTS.) in case I do great the first time.
How many times did you guys take it and did you improve after the first try?

Listen to your mom. My DD only took the state mandated one, but it includes writing.

You can’t opt out of this test, it is required for your state to have all Juniors take it together as a measurement of their achievement. It’s a shame that they don’t offer the writing as an option. Give it your best shot when you take it, learn from the areas you can improve, and then get an even better score next time!

I took the ACT twice and got the same score both times. Kind of a bummer, but some of my section scores improved a bit!
