I have taken the test twice with subpar results
1st time: M:590, CR:600, W: 640; essay 12
2nd time: M:600, CR: 590, W:540 essay 8

i plan to take it one more time this november after some serious prepping
but i am wondering how many times can you take the sat? why don't people keep taking it to get the score they want
thanks

I took the SAT 3 times, 1 time soph year 1 time junior year and once at the beginning of senior year. my scores went like this

soph year: 740 M/690 V
junior year: 800 M/710 V
senior year: 800 M/750 V

most people don't take it more than 3 or 4 times because it looks obsessive, because sometimes you send like your testing record to a college and they can see how many times you've taken it. like someone who scores a 1400 first shot and then his 7th test gets a 1480 would probably be frowned upon, but that's just my guess I don't know these things for sure.

Are you changing your method of prepping for the next exam? If NOT are you anticipating a different result?? remember the old adage:: doing same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

I'm in a surprising but also somewhat convenient situation, in that my math score is lowest overall, whereas I've always assumed that it would be the highest. This is "convenient" because I feel the most comfortable with math of all three sections, but I'm obviously making little mistakes on a few questions. I plan to do enough practice over the summer to avoid (at least most of) these stupid mistakes that I seem to be making, and then I'll continue to do some CR practice as well and, hopefully, I can bring my score up to at least a 2300.

yea between the first and second times i did not change my strategy much.. but this time i plan to try xiggi's method as well as work through the books

I don't think I will take it again because all of my practice tests leading up to both exams were in the 1900-2000 range. The May test was my best ETS test ever and I don't think I can do that much better, maybe 50 points with a lot of practice. I am going to focus on SAT II's (Math Level 2, and US History) instead.
