ive taken it twice...scoring badly....if i take it again (3rd time) and do significantly better then again (4th time) should i stop after that? ty

3 times is enough

well normally I'd agree, but the first two tests I was basically spaced out a quarter of the test and really didnt try...didnt study either...

why don't you take yourself seriously? it's a waste of money and time if you dont try or study. no more than four times. preferably three times. don't set yourself up for failure. tell yourself to buckle down for this third exam and to focus during the exam. study, do practice tests, and take this seriously. the sat is a sign of how well you can prepare. yeah people say it benefits the wealthy and blah blah blah, but in reality it's only you and your own preparation in that test room and you only have yourself to blame if you do badly. do well. like nike says, just do it. good luck.

yeah thanks noit. that's sort of my point though. i'm not just taking it again just to see what will happen again, this time I'm actually studying and stuff. i had some major motivation problems my last two times. so in essence, this next time will be like my first time taking it. i guess i'll take it 4 times total unless I do well this next time (2100). would still benefit from 4 times prolly, because the first two times I didn't break 700 on any of them, so the first two tests can't really help my superscore with that goal.

Maybe you can just wait until you know you're ready?

I wouldnt suggest taking it 4 times..

But if you've made significant improvements between each testing session..then maybe.
Definitely don't take it more than 4 though!

Good luck!

I also had motivational issues the first time I took it..since I was only a sophomore and could care less. Wish I either tried harder or just didnt take it. Oh well, at least it shows a big improvement!

Thanks Smile. I read one of your threads and I'm studying the blue book now. Hopefully I score as well as you.

Here is another factor-I'm a senior. I'm taking the SAT's again because:
1) The scores I have now are not good if I want to transfer at any time during college.
2) I have a personal desire to try my best and see how well I can do because I know I can do better and don't want to look back thinking I could have done better.
3) Some colleges I'm applying to for my freshman year of college might look at my March SAT scores to consider me. I know most schools don't consider march SAT's, but there are some schools that might allow me to start in the Spring that would consider them.

With all of this said, does the new SAT policy negate everything? I mean lets say I'm a freshman in college who wants to transfer for my sophomore year. I took the SAT four times in high school, but only want to send the ones I took in my senior year that I did the best on. Can I choose which SAT scores to send to whatever college I want to transfer to because of the new policy? If so, then I would think I could take it an endless amount of times (since it's pretty much too late for colleges for my freshman year of college anyway).

If you were a junior I definitely would have suggested you wait until May/June or even October to take it as it is essentially the last time you should be taking it. I know you're a senior but since most colleges don't consider March anyway, why don't you just wait a bit longer and make sure you're completely prepared this time? I strongly don't recommend taking it a fourth time unless you perform really poorly.

The policy states that you can choose only your best SAT score to send to colleges. So in your case, it would definitely benefit you. Keep in mind though that some colleges won't accept it and will force you to send all of your scores.

"The policy states that you can choose only your best SAT score to send to colleges."

I assume the policy works by date scores, not by independent sections. So you're saying I can either choose to send all of my scores (current policy), or choose to send one score/date (my best score)? I can't pick and choose (like if I hypothetically take it ten times, I can't pick the best two that would make the best superscore)? Either way, because most schools don't take March SAT's, the only reason not to take it more than one more time would be for financial reasons and the fact that some colleges will want all of my scores. Right?

Most colleges already pick and choose the best subscores. In fact, I don't know any that don't. So even if you send all your scores the colleges will superscore them. Obviously, though, they still see your other scores and that may or may not hurt you. I also think that colleges don't like it when you take it more than three times because it makes it seem like you're trying to achieve a score beyond your capability, like you're desperate, like you have no life and are devoted to SATs, etc.

Alright thanks for all of your replies. I'll plan on taking it in March because I have the time to study for it and will be fresh then. If I decide I'm not ready in March or think I didn't do well, I'll just cancel it and take it later. If I get a better score (wouldn't be hard), but not amazing, I might take it one more time (four total), but no more.

Good luck! :)

Good luck! Hope everything goes well!
