How many times is too much for SAT taking?

I took the SAT twice as a sophomore and scored fairly average. I took it once this past year as a junior making it a total of three times. Will most colleges “forgive” me for my sophomore year scores and overlook them. I have been studying and feel more confident than I have ever been in taking this test. I would like to know if you all believe that it is worth it for me to take the test over again. My main concern is that taking the test a total of 4 times would be a bad thing even if I show that I have improved.

4 times may be a little too much. More than 3 times is a bit of a drag. But, regardless, colleges will definitely not overlook any scores from sophomore year. Did you improve a little (100-200 points) or by a lot (500 points)? If you aren’t improving, I wouldn’t take the test again unless you study extensively over a long period of time. Taking the test a fifth time will be worthless unless you show drastic improvement, and this time especially, you have to show that. Otherwise, colleges will think you’re simply taking the test multiple times just to get a perfect score (which I know you aren’t).

If you don’t mind me asking, what were your scores?

They are on other forums I have posted. I made these scores as a sophomore and my mom told me I was taking them two weeks before the test date which sucked. Never the less, I should have studied harder and more intensively. @FutureDoctor2028

Alright. The only advice I can give you at this point is to truly try to improve substantially at this point since it will look bad if you don’t. Plan on taking it in March or early spring, which will give you enough time to study.

Good luck man, and remember, SATs aren’t everything! I saw you had a 3.9 UW GPA, so you’re definietly a shoo-in in many competitive colleges, and I’m sure you’re taking good AP Classes as well.

Why are you sending your SAT score? If I remember, you posted another thread where you said you had a higher ACT score.
You’re simply wasting time and effort by constantly retaking the SAT. You only have to send either the ACT score or the SAT score.

@DarkEclipse I looked at his replies and he never mentioned anything about an ACT score.

I have only taken the ACT once so I plan on studying for at least 3-4 months before I retake the test. @FutureDoctor2028

What did you get on it? If it is higher compared to your SAT then, yes, follow Eclipse’s advice. Don’t stress yourself out by improving your SAT score if your ACT is better.

@FutureDoctor2028‌ Well, he didn’t specify his exact score, but he did say it was higher than his SAT score in this thread:

@coder14‌ If you really want to retake a test, retake the ACT. It isn’t necessary to waste your time on the SAT, since many people prefer the ACT and score better on it.
