Hi, everybody. I'am an Italian/Moroccan in the 10th grade who would like to study in the USA after graduating from high school. So, I have to pass SAT or ACT to apply for an undergraduate program.

So, how many times I can take ACT/SAT per year ?

Thank in advance ;)

There is no limit to how many times you can take it, there are about 5 testing dates in the US a year, I am not sure about international (check the websites).

If you take it more than 3-4 times in total, colleges will not like it as it looks like you just score better because of experience. The thing is that both the ACT and SAT let you choose which scores to send so you can only send your best ones. Some top colleges do not like this though and require you to send them all, but there is no way for them to check. It is still “cheating” though.

You can take it as many times a year as it’s offered (about five I think) but that doesn’t mean you should. Taking it more than 3 times is generally frowned upon.

note: you can only take the ACT 12 times.

Who would take the ACT 12 times lol. Besides like an ACT tutor or something that seems like a major waste of money.

Thank you so much guys ;)

Is taking the SAT 3 times too much? Also If I were to take 1 or 2 ACT’s would I be required to send my ACT scores if they were worse than my SAT scores?

@Caruso It depends on what school you are applying too. Some tell you to send everything, some tell you to send one or the other, and others tell you to send everything. The thing is that there is no way for them to check what you actually send so it’s all based on the honor system.

Taking the SAT 3 times is classically considered the “best” number, but with score choice being prevalent now it probably doesn’t matter at last. If superscoring doesn’t help you (that is all of your best scores are in one test) just send the best test (if the school lets you of course*).

Okay, I applying to top state schools and some privates. Mostly in the 25-80 range as far as rank goes. Do you think they would care if I took the ACT’s and just did not report ACT scores? I know it depends on the school, but in general do most schools the require all scores say you can send all SAT, all ACT or all of both?
