How many times should you take the SATs?

^^^How many times should you take the SATs?

i think the most common number i've heard is no more than 3.
(4 times means you're spending too many saturdays filling in bubbles)

There is no limit, but 4 times is a little too much. 3 times should be enough.

3 is the absolute maximum. 2 is better.

i think only private colleges care, but public ones (UCs) don't care whatsoever

True. No limit, but best to keep it no more than three.

Enough times so that you're content about you scores and so that you have room left to take SAT IIs.

I talked to admission officals, they said 4 is ok, but anything over just shows that you are getting desperate

it depends...if you got a score like 700 cr, 650 m, and 700 w and your weakest section is the cr and your strongest is m, i would not risk taking the SAT again to raise the m and possibly get a lower cr score, but if you are willing to risk it, i would take it again.

just dont take it more than 6 times...becuase then that would be 30 hours of your life wasted

well, colleges take the top score from each section so even if you get like 800, 800, 700 on one test and then you retake it and get 700, 700, 800, your combined score would still be 2400, which is what colleges will look at. Regarding the number of times you take it, I have heard many points on this issue. Personally, a college that receives over 10,000 applicants a year would obviously first have screeners that input all the scores into a computer database first, meaning there is a small probability the admissions officer will even see the number of times you take it. Probably, he or she will just see your combined highest total. Personally, I know a girl that took it 6 times and still got into Yale...so I don't know what to say. My opinion would be to take it until your satisfied with your score, but at the very least, study and don't just retake them.

is it true that if you take it for more than 3 times they'll start averaging your scores?

no that's a myth. No where does it say that you can't take it more then 3 times. People just *assume that.

It doesn't matter, really....but who wants to take it 4+ times?
